What about off-season losers? The divisional team that finished with the same record as you and the divisional team that beat you in the playoffs both got considerably better and the Braves got considerably worse.

That’s the beauty of playing the season. The Braves still have the banners and the Mets still have the off-season.
Mets: off-season champs for 3 straight seasons and not a damn thing to show for it.

The Mets winning it all at this point will be bad for the game
Even the most fanatical Mets fans have to see it
They will be odds on favorites, but history shows us that doesn’t usually translate
I have no interest in following an NBA model for MLB
We should all be against franchises becoming pawns of billionaires. It’s not what’s best for the game of baseball, especially its hardcore fans
I’ve been indifferent about LIV Golf, but I want no part of LIV Baseball

Its got to be driving the yankee front office crazy, then the mets will finish in a wc and lose in the playoffs while the yanks finish 3rd maybe 4 in the AL East

Absolute madness. The deal. The Mets' spending and roster. All of it.

The Mets have traded C James McCann to the Orioles for a player to be named later, per source. @JeffPassan was on it.

The PTBNL going back to the Mets from the Orioles is not expected to be a notable prospect, per source. Even while paying down $19M of McCann’s contract, because of tax implications and CBT recalculations, the Mets will save $8M in this deal.

McCann had a limited no-trade clause that allowed him to block deals to five teams. According to a source, the White Sox were on that list, so the idea that McCann might be part of a deal for Liam Hendriks was a non-starter.

I agree to an extent but I think the lack of spending by a lot of franchises is a much bigger problem than the 3-5 teams who are opening the check books wide open.

Oh yeah, everyone will be quite against them next year.
But on the bright side, over the last 5 seasons the biggest offseason spender has won their division...once.
Luckily in this 162 game sport, spending the most doesn't guarantee shite.

I don’t understand the Liv comparison since all the players in the league will benefit from owners having to pay more.

Mets about to become the most watched MLB team, wouldn't surprise me to see them sell out even in Miami.
On paper they have the best team in baseball, just need Verlander and Max to each make 25-30 starts

Baseball is such a regional sport - I don't think it works like that. Casual fans in Miami and Pittsburg, etc. probably don't even know, or care, who is on the Mets roster and there are too few of their rabid fans who might know to pack the park for the Mets.
Now a home run chase that is plastered on the news ad nauseum might move the needle at places like that but a gaggle highly paid players - I don't think that does.

What? Teams like the Yankees and LA bring the fans into those stadiums, Mets will as well next year not to mention people will go just to see them play. Greatest collection of stars among any team in baseball.

The players all are afforded a lifestyle well beyond what they would have if not for MLB. Forgive me for looking at this from a fan's perspective. I don't pull for individuals, I pull for the team.
And I really didn't want to compare to LIV as much as the NBA, but I couldn't help but mention LIV due to the thought of money being the determining factor.
Sports are an escape from our daily lives, where we are always confronted with money being the dominant concern.

Yankees for sure that's on old name and rep, Dodgers a little for the same reason but not as much as Yankees. Tha in my view is more the reason - plus old Yank and Dodger transplants in those cities go.
Mets don't really have that to the same extent as those historic franchises and IMHO like I said most of the casual fans in those cities, which one would need to come out to as you say - fill the park - I can assure you are not following free agency right now and don't know who the Mets have signed and more than likely still won't by the time they play.
A few more thousand than against Cincy - sure. Packed park as you say - not very likely in my opinion.

Teams that have large national fan bases bring in crowds to opposing stadiums.
Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, Dodgers, Braves. That's about it.
You'll get a bump for Ohtani pitching or something along those lines, so the Mets might bring in additional fans, but they aren't creating sell outs in places that are normally 50% capacity at best.

I think it’s pretty awesome personally. Everyone bitches about how boring baseball is and how it lacks personalities that make it interesting today. This has been plastered all over sports shows in the off-season and they will be a must follow no matter what happens when the season starts.
If it forces the Pittsburgh’s and Miami’s of the world to start spending a little more than that’s the cherry on top, but I’m not going to hold my breath on that one. I’m not rooting for the Mets to win anything but I’m glad there’s some excitement this winter
