Question for the thread: do you see the Rangers making the playoffs in 2023 and how far can they realistically go, if so?
I definitely think they can as long as their rotation stays healthy. I think they can win in the 83-88 game range and be the last wild card. Once you get in who knows. See 2022 Phillies and Padres.

My Reds finally making some hot stove noise. Signed Wil Myers to a 1 year, 7.5 million dollar deal that could get to 9.5 million. Also, signed Curt Casali to a two year deal, and DFA'd Moose who is owed 22 million. We are taking the NL Central now!!! Ok, maybe not. We'll just try not to lose 100 games or more again.

They should be right with the Mariners, Rays, and Blue Jays fighting for a wild card spot. I don't see anyone in the AL Central making noise in the WC race. Maybe a dark horse run by the Angels or Orioles.

Could be a solid platoon player for the Dodgers

Astros currently have the 7th highest payroll for this upcoming year. They might not be the yankees but they sure as shite arent the royals
Astros under the cap? Are they paying obscene luxury taxes, or any luxury tax? They are right where they should be
Sure there's teams that are notoriously cheap. I’m not sure how you fix that, and my fandom for such teams would likely suffer

20M under the tax
enough room for an expiring FA at the deadline

Every team outside of the New York teams are under the tax right now. Astros made the decision to not resign Verlander because they did not want to go over the tax line.

It was all great fun for baseball, which is obviously thriving like never before. But the really big deal is coming next winter, when two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani hits the open market. Ohtani has never been about money, but he’s made enough for his otherwise beleaguered employer, and it’s time for him to be paid his true value.
How high will it go? Hard to say, but I polled nine agents — not his own — to find out, and here are the responses.
Agent A: “He will definitely beat Trout, and you have to go from there.” (Mike Trout signed a 12-year, $426.5M deal)
Agent B: “Should get $400M-plus to a winner.”
Agent C: “$430 [million] to $440 over 10 years.”
Agent D: “10 times 45 [million]”
Agent E: “I think he goes to $500M or so, probably 12 years.”
Agent F: “$500M for 13/14 [years]— $250M per position”
Agent G: “475 [million]to 525 over 13 seasons.”
Agent H: “11 times 50 = $550M. Sounds crazy but he has the ability to consistently be a 9/10 WAR player.”
Agent I: “It sure seems like something that starts with a 5 in front of it.”
From Heyman so tifwiw. Thought it was worth posting anyway.

Trevor Bauer’s initial 324-game suspension under MLB’s domestic violence policy has been reduced to 194 games by an arbitrator, ending a seven-month grievance process.
quote:
Bauer is eligible to pitch effective immediately, even though the suspension that was upheld by the arbitrator is longer than the amount he served since the initial suspension by MLB on April 30.
quote:
The arbitrator is basically giving him credit for the time he was on the restricted list in the second half of 2021. But he still has to pay back for that time.
quote:
The Dodgers have 14 days to decide whether or not to reinstate him onto the 40-man roster.

MLB’s statement …

Trevor Bauer’s reduced suspension still stands as the longest in baseball history, the previous high being 162.
ETA: changed 24 days to 14 days. There was a typo in the initial tweet.

Houston is a top 10 media market and spends that way. Idk why you guys are insistent on an inferiority complex. Maybe it’s the Louisiana influence.

Dodgers have until Jan. 6 to decide if they want to keep Bauer, or cut him. Under Major League Rule 2(C). He is reinstated but there is a period of time before he has to go back on the roster.
