I will be SHOCKED if Bauer pitches another inning for the Dodgers. Nothing about that story plays well in an uber liberal city like Los Angeles.

Come to Texas Bauer. I’d welcome him with open arms.

Would live to see him come to SD just to give all the liberal Padres fans a complete meltdown. They would swear they would never attend a game in solidarity with domestic violence victims but their arse would be in a seat in petco opening day

Hell, I'd like to see the Dodgers keep him for one more year. They won't though. The Harvey Weinstein story is still a big deal out there. Keeping Bauer would kill them in the PR department

I know what the payrolls are

I said historically small market teams

Why are yall arguing about this?

I said I don’t have an answer for cheap owners, but NY teams spending over the cap more than the small market teams is not going to keep competitive balance

Houston has been a top 10 city population-wise for 60+ years.

so you also know that all but 7 teams in all of baseball would consider the Astros an organization who has a leg up on them when it comes to spending and dont have to count on strategic team building as much as they do?

Drew Smyly’s deal with the Cubs is for two years and $19 million, per source. There is an opt out after 2023. He’ll earn $8M in 2023, $8.5M in 2024 and there is a $10M mutual option ($2.5M buyout) for 2025.

Astros stay under the cap. They consider the luxury tax a penalty. There’s no advantage to the Astros b/c the other owners won’t spend more money

NY teams buying every free agent regardless of business considerations will eventually become a league problem

Cohen pulling the billionaire I’ve got frick you money can not be good for the game. The majority of the owners didn’t get where they are being reckless

Explain to me why there exists a salary cap in professional sports?

Astros are a middle third team when it comes to market size, but the Angels are inept, the White Sox are mostly inept, and the A's aren't even trying.

Plus all three of those teams share a market with a more popular franchise.

They went over in 2019 and I’m sure would go over again for the right player like they did with Greinke

Also MLB doesn’t have a salary cap

I don’t like the NY teams or any of the top 3 market teams in any sport but you’re melting over this.

Weren’t you proud of the Astros or something earlier in this thread for not being reckless spenders and now you’re saying you may not follow the MLB if this persists

So why bother with a luxury tax then?

What’s the purpose of it?

So that everyone makes more money, cause it's business.
