The Dodgers and Reds are “finalizing a significant trade,” according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports (Twitter link). Details are not known, but it’s believed to involve “multiple Major League pieces.”

3:35pm: Matt Kemp, Yasiel Puig, and Alex Wood are all heading to Cincinnati, Passan tweets. Righty Homer Bailey and more will go in return. “Prospects and possibly international bonus slots” are also included in the deal, per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic (via Twitter), who adds that Bailey has waived his no-trade protection.

Saving close to 20 million now when it comes to what's counted towards the tax. Not a crazy amount but it all helps I guess. Dodger boards are saying Jeter Downs is the main prospect involved but that seems like speculation

I guess. But the Dodgers dont necessarily do odd man outs, at least we disnt last year. We literally had two separate lineups with up to 7 different players in each. Puig would have still found a spot, if anything Kemp would have been the actual odd man out, but they seem committed to opening up an everyday spot for Harper

Looks like Jeter Downs and Josiah Gray are heading to LA.

Edit: Kyle Farmer also heading to Cincy.

Downs is a weird piece for the Dodgers to acquire. They either think they are about to trade him or they dont believe in gavin lux at 2nd

@JeffPassan: For those shipping the Dodgers and Bryce Harper: After the trade, the Dodgers' luxury-tax payroll is going to be more than $180M, including the money they're sending to Cincinnati. If they want to stay under, Harper isn't happening. If that's not a concern, it's a possibility.

quote:

@Ken_Rosenthal: In the wake of this trade, #Dodgers can do many other things besides take a run at Harper. They can sign free-agent A.J. Pollock and/or trade for #Marlins’ Realmuto or one of #Indians’ starting pitchers. Many ways they can go.

quote:

@Joelsherman1: Full trade: Kemp, Puig, Wood, Kyle Farmer and $7M to #Reds for Bailey and prospects Josiah Gray and Jeter Downs.

Seriously, get rid of him ASAP. Reds went 1-18 in his starts last year I believe.

Correction: 1-19

I remember when Bailey was one of the best prospects in the game. Congrats getting rid of the worst pitcher in baseball.

Source confirms the Dodgers plan to release Homer Bailey after the trade becomes official. @Ken_Rosenthal was first with that news.

I don't disagree with this, but damn, Friedman should probably reconsider leaving his GM position unfilled.

That might be the best part of the deal. The Reds offense should be banging, and the rotation is definitely better. We might threaten .500. We need to sign another midrange type starter like a Wade Miley.

Puig was not happy sharing playing time. Pretty much demanded to be traded and I don’t blame him. If the Dodgers add Harper, they are going to get destroyed by lefties, any leftie.

I've said literally before the 2018 season started that the Dodgers would get Harper. After this trade today, I've never been more confident about anything in my life than Harper ending up being a Dodger.

Also Homer Bailey is the worst starting pitcher I've seen in the past decade. He is mother fricking dreadul as a pitcher. Good for Cincy for finally trading his arse.
