quote:personally I think it's more likely the Dodgers trade for Kluber and then sign pollock. We should be under the threshold still and then have a bunch of money coming off the books next year
After this trade today, I've never been more confident about anything in my life than Harper ending up being a Dodger.

I was just about to reply to him and say the same, I don't think this is a play for Harper but moreso a big SP like Kluber or a trade for Realmuto.
Which imo those are better moves.

The front office usually operates on multiple different paths all at the same time. I think a harper deal is one of them, but only going to happen if the 10+ year deals never come in and he starts being more willing to sign for like 8 years with options aftee year 5 or something like that

I totally forgot Kemp was still on his 8/160 deal. The Dodgers gave Kemp that deal and they have traded him THREE times while hes on it

Seen multiple rumors that the Dodgers next move is to trade for Kluber (Verdugo I’m guessing)
Then pursue Harper?
Then pursue Harper?

I like Miller, but man, he's been used and abused the past few years.
He's lost velocity and k rate went down.
Hope i'm wrong, but of the quality pen arms, i thought his was the one ready to explode from over use.

Last week I read in the Cleveland Plains Dealer that the Indians are unlikely to trade any pitchers since they were able to unload salary from other trades. Not sure if that was speculation or if they were quoting someone in the front office.

Sources: #Indians trade dialogue over the past week has been heavier on Corey Kluber than Trevor Bauer, although at this point a deal is not expected before Christmas. @MLB @MLBNetwork

Miller does have a lot of wear and tear on him. So it could backfire. But Boras is Britton’s agent. And would probably be demanding 4-5 years. If you keep waiting for Britton’s price to come down some other team signs Miller. And you’re left with nothing.

Yeah, I wonder if Phillies pass on Harper to go big on Trout when he’s up.

I only want Harper and/or Machado, if neither move prevents a full effort at Trout.
I'm realistic, and don't rate the Phils ahead of any of the retooled NL East foes today. Sure, they are in the mix, but the whole division is about equal on paper(sans Mia), with Atlanta having the best youth upside of current. And the Phils arguably trailing all three foes in terms of 1-2-3 starting staff punch..Marlins a 94 to 100 Gm loser until further notice.
Last year's flirtation of division lead and dalliance way above .500 was fool's gold that the Run Differential and Fielding stats/metrics screamed would regress to the mean.
Unless they add a MadBum or Kluber, Pivetta takes the next step in control and/or to dominant, Velasquez improves in stamina, don't feel the need to shove all in now. but rather keeping with the slow steady build.
Personally, think the Stros, Sox, and Yanks too loaded for bear right now, plus LAD, St.L, Mil, TB, etc..to be drastic.
