Isn't that what the Sox reportedly offered him?

ETA: I know it was also reported that the true Sox offer was between that and the initial $175 mil offer, but no one on either side ever denied the reported numbers.

I read $240M - $280M. Either way, good for the Padres if true. They need a shot in the arm. So pitch clocks will now be used in spring training games.

Hey, the White Sox need one too.

Honestly, at this point, I'm echoing what my co-worker said this week: I want Machado just so I can say we won something notable recently.

White Sox certainly have the money to spend.

Get paid 30m a year to play baseball and live in San Diego. I would be on the plane already

He’s a fool if he doesn’t jump all over that.

Agreed, but I've read he'd prefer to not play on the west coast, for whatever reason. But ultimately he'll take the most money.

I'll be fricking furious if Hahn and Reinsdorf don't match or exceed that offer.

Harper and Machado would be a perfect fit for White Sox. Either one would be a big upgrade over what they had last year.

Which honestly makes this whole offseason more frustrating. We are a big market club that operates like a small one.

Reinsdorf once opened up the checkbook for Albert Belle, but other than that, he prefers to be careful when signing guys. I appreciate the fiscally responsible side of it, but sometimes you have to risk something to gain something.

Other than one Jim Thome HR in 2008, this club has gained shite since 2005.

Agreed. Which is why I'd be livid if they miss on both.

The farm system is there to have a winner in a couple of years, but an obvious star is needed to build around. And both Machado and Harper would fill positions of need.

My bias is obvious, but I'll have serious doubts about the rebuild if the Padres beat the Sox to Machado over money.

Also, who would have guessed that the Marlins and Padres would be the teams that have dished out the biggest contracts in American sports history.
