Elimination is on the line and he goes with Jose urquidy and joe smith over Gerrit cole.
And Cole was pissed too.

Why get him up and warmed up if you aren’t going to use him?

I feel like Cole is probably lashing out like a college kid coming down off aderall after a final. Looking back, I would be pissed off too. Hinch really fricked this one up hard.

Because AJ Hunch makes all of his decisions BEFORE the game. He decided before the game that Cole would only pitch in a winning situation.
Hes a pre-programmed manager. Hes gets out managed consistently but still gets wins based on talent.
Theres no reason for Harris to come in for a fourth appearance when he did. Just stupid as frick.
Tried to micro-manage too early and killed a rally.
Then he wouldnt PH Tucker for Chirinos, who was horrible all night, and subbed in Marisnick which is basically an offensive white flag in a game where you need runs.
Josh Reddick was even hitting the ball decent. So what the hell was the point?
We've had trouble scoring runs all series off base hits. AJ's only solution to that was micro-manage and make dumb base running mistakes or poorly timed bunts.
Ultimately, he just went to his season long playbook.

He deserves every bit of criticism and second guessing coming his way. He will never admit the mistakes he makes and I absolutely hate the arrogance in that. It reeks of his spoiled Stanford education.
But you are dead on with the pre-programmed manager comment. He gets an A+ For pre-game preparation and a big fat F for in-game management. I’ve said it multiple times over the years. If it ain’t going according to the 9-inning script then he’s as useless as a monkey in the dugout.
To leave Garrett Cole, the best pitcher in baseball this year, in the bullpen without ever using him might go down as one of the biggest managerial failures and head scratching moments of any World Series ever. And let’s not even bring up the two out Soto at bat that pushed the lead to 4-2. An overused Harris, an overrated osuna, Joe Smith and Jose urquidy before a Garrett Cole. Unbelievable.

This game was rough. Upsets the hell out of me to see the Stros lose when they were that close to winning. Nevertheless, the Nationals looked like the better team this series and they wanted to win it more. So much for home field advantage. Good for Washington and congrats on winning it. The Astros will be back next year and hopefully they finish it off next time. See you guys in the offseason DAT.
Geaux Stros!

And yeah Greinke was awesome and pitched the game of his life. Frickin proud of him. Sucks that he didn't have teammates or a manager to have his back. I lost it with Hinch. Dude tends to disappoint very often when the pressure piles on.

Astros fans great series. You just ran in to a team that’s a team. You guys were so good too to bottom, but thiss was a team of destiny.

Congrats Nationals and fans. I was glad to see Scherzer get a ring.

One more note about AJ’s failure tonight.
If the Astros had even the slightest chance of convincing Cole to stay in Houston AJ all but squashed it by not using him at all. If your best is available you use him.
And after the game Hinch had the audacity to respond to a reporter’s question about whether Cole was available by answering “Well, he wasn’t throwing a bullpen session”. Apparently, that’s all he did AJ, thanks to you.

Game came down to Astros not being able to put away Scherzer, and finish him off.
He did not have his best stuff, he was gutting it out, and Astros had many chances to put him away, and could only get the 1 run.
That was the key to the game.

Still in shock this team could not win one home game this series. Looking back at it the 5-4 loss of game 1 really stings now. But the astros were just not clutch at home when they had to be with risp. It will be an interesting off season of do they stay the course with this roster or shake things up some.
