The Bulls are reportedly pessimistic about their chances to land unrestricted free agent Carmelo Anthony.
The Bulls will be meeting with Anthony on Tuesday, but a source with knowledge of the situation said, "They’re worried that he’s headed back to New York. They’re more pessimistic than optimistic." The source also added that the sentiment is only shared by a faction of the Bulls' front office, so hope is not lost here for Bulls fans. The Bulls would have to clear some cap space in order to offer Anthony a max deal, but those are some moves the team would be happy to make in order to land their top free agent target.

With so many players on the verge of signing new deals due to free agency, the players union issued a warning on Tuesday, advising them to use a provision during the 2016-17 season that will allow players to be paid out over 18 months instead of a year, in case there's a work stoppage in the summer of 2017.
Being paid out over 18 months for that season would likely keep paychecks coming throughout an entire work stoppage, if it were to happen. Both players and owners have the ability to opt out of the current collective bargaining agreement after the 2016-17 season, and the memo can be looked at two ways. Either one or both sides are expecting a work stoppage in a couple years, or the union is simply doing its due diligence and giving the players sound advice, just in case. Either way, another work stoppage in the summer of 2017 is certainly a possibility.

Oh yea, a work stoppage seems imminent.
If I'm the players, i'm striking as soon as this CBA is over. Granted, it is the player's fault they agreed to the provisions in the last CBA, so it's on them. But they gave up a shite ton of money, only to watch some of these team's values double and triple, LAC over $2bil, and in general, the NBA brand being solid financially.
If I'm the players, I'm trying to recoup all of that lost money from the last deal.

The problem is the players will always fold before the owners do so they never have the leverage to get a deal that really benefits them in the long run.
Especially in the NBA. You know how many are going to listen to that NBAPA advice? I'd say less than 10 percent

Derrick Rose (knee) is scheduled to be part of the Bulls' pitch to Carmelo Anthony on Tuesday, according to sources familiar with the meeting.
Rose had recently said he wouldn't take part in recruiting players to come play for the Bulls, so this is a bit of a reversal of course for the Bulls' star. It's unclear whether he will attend Anthony's meeting with the Bulls' front office or if he'll simply place a phone call, but either option can't do anything but help the Bulls' chances to land Melo. Rose's camp had previously told Anthony's camp that the former would welcome the latter's signing in Chicago, but we'll have to wait and see if Rose's participation in the recruitment makes any difference.

LeBron James is seeking a maximum salary on a short-term contract with the Heat which would expire after 1-2 years, according to John Canzano of the Oregonian.
Such a deal would theoretically allow LBJ to play a few more years with Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade before their declining play closes the championship window, at which point he could seek his fortunes elsewhere as a free agent. He'd hit free agency again as a 31-year-old if he does sign a two-year deal, setting him up for another massive multi-year pact.

I'm not sure if he could still take player options with short term, but something 2+2 would be money.
The main reason why it would be a great idea is in a couple of years the NBA is going to sign some massive new TV deal, and the extra revenue to come is supposed to increase the salary cap figures a good bit, so he'll be able to re-up then for a much higher max deal if he wants.

Dwyane Wade will reportedly return with the Heat on a four-year contract, according to the Oregonian's John Canzano.
He'll earn $12 million in the first year of the deal, which means he lost close to $10 million in 2014-15 by declining his player option. It's a bold move for Wade, though he'll make some of it back by locking himself into a contract through the 2017-18 season. His ailing knees make that a risky proposition for Miami, but by restructuring Wade and Chris Bosh's contracts they've propped open the window for a few more championship runs with the Big 3.

Chris Bosh has reportedly agreed to a five-year deal with the Heat, beginning with an $11 million salary in 2014-15.
As with Dwyane Wade, Bosh terminated his lucrative contract in favor of a longer-term deal that would allow the Heat to keep LeBron James and rebuild the roster with greater depth. Bosh was a sneaky third-round fantasy value last season in only 32 minutes per game, and he remains a strong draft option for steady (if unspectacular) across-the-board production.

Even if Bron signs for the max, the Heat will have some money to work with. Most people assumed Bosh/Wade would resign for about $15 mill per season.
