All of these multi million dollar additions and renovations will be useless.
And then everyone will drop football and replace it with soccer.
American soccer renaissance is coming bitches.

I'm not in favor of this mainly because I've never been a supporter of paying players.
Do y'all think this is going to destroy March Madness. As much as we bitch about the small school leaches in football we do the opposite in b-ball because sometimes Cinderella has a legit shot. If the tournament becomes all P5 teams I will be pissed.

There is nothing stopping LSU or Bama from trying to schedule PAC 12 teams instead of FCS. They just don't want to.
LSU has played Oregon State, Oregon, Arizona State, Arizona and Washington in the last 10 years.

plus we have a home and home with UCLA coming up

I meant to type full P5 slate there.
Thats what I get for using a shitty phone to post off of during work.
Anyways, the point was that there is nothing stopping any P5 school form trying to set up a schedule with only P5 teams.
They dont do it b/c they dont want to.

This is going to destroy college hockey, which is basically all small conferences except for one that just formed last year - the Big 10. If they start getting to pay their players and recruit without rules, guess which conference is going to win the championship every year?
The competitive divide between the P5 and the rest is about to get ridiculous in sports aside from football.

I really need to further educate myself on this whole thing and how it impacts LSU. Seems like the small schools are fricked.

Not sure what to think about this, but it could be the beginning of the end of college football as we know it.

Tl;Dr: LSU can start a new north end-zone project, and convert all gold colored seats into actual gold. UL Lafayette reverts back to SLII and disbands its athletic program. Mark Hudspeth takes over at Texas after arm wrestling Charlie Strong for his own job, and wins the P5 national championship every year with athlete-students who get paid a minimum of $150k per year.

This will ultimately be great for College Football and College Basketball.
The other sports, not so much. The ESPN panel is right. What will happen to the men's rowing team or the women's tennis team?
This will ultimately make the non-revenue sports cease to exist

And I don't care one bit. Those non revenue generating sports should be thanking Football and Basketball for even giving them one dime. Its athletic re-distribution of wealth. The real winners are women's sports. With title9, this is going to make women profit MUCH MUCH more then they should.

don't really have a full understanding of this but it sounds like we are fricked. Hopefully this blows up in the big 5s face and then we can figure out something more fair to all the schools.

Yes but women's non-revenue will be fine. And let's be honest how many of you care about men's golf and men's swimming?
There will still be a men's golf team and a men's tennis team but my guess is that they will be more like club sports with fewer or no scholarships but with still good facilities. People who play golf and tennis and swimming generally come from backgrounds where the scholarship doesn't make a huge difference.
We will still have minor league baseball and minor league hockey so those sports will be fine. The future Tiger Woods and Phil MIckelson's will still be able to go to college.

I guess I need to read the articles (always helpful before forming an opinion) but, in this scenario, why would the NCAA continue to exist at all? They've thrown the smaller schools under the bus and the power conferences will just do what they want anyway.
Or is that partially the end game? The NCAA just becomes a glorified trade association for the smaller conferences while the Big 5 become minor league sports in every sense of the word.
And I'm guessing that the Big 5 will jointly make and implement the rules together. Otherwise, the PAC 12 may not change too much while the SEC will "cap" their hours at 90 per week and forbid the players from going to class, special exemption made for Vanderbilt on the latter point.

they can cheat to recruit i assume
This might have been addressed in another post on another page, but this is silly. Is using the book in an open book test cheating? If the rules say you can pay kids and give them cars, etc., it isn't cheating.

I hope class 4a and 5a does this to the LHSAA soon...
