re: Steve Sarkisian asked to take leave of absence, Clay Helton interim USC coach

Probably the same thing Kentucky was when they hired Gillispie. That he's a good coach and maybe if you keep him on a short enough leash then he doesn't frick up. High risk, but high reward.
But at this point no top program in college athletics should hire someone with those issues. Like UK in basketball, USC is too high profile and too in the spotlight for someone with a problem like that to handle. Especially with the criticism that comes with that job.

I don't think that's entirely true. You can't just be an alcoholic or drug user and have immunity. If you ask for help, admit that you have problem, then they will allow to enter treatment at your expense.
If you show up to work drunk or high, they can absolutely fire you, even if you have a problem.
See, it depends on the nature of the environment.
Under ADA rules, an employer cannot treat an alcoholic differently for showing up to work drunk, than they would others. Therefore, you have to look at that environment - have they had alcohol on the property before? Has it been largely accepted to drink at that work place?
According to reports after Sark's first issue - it was, as they stated that they would get rid of the alcohol in the coaches office/locker room, etc.
Therefore, if they had allowed it in the past for others, then they cannot treat Sark differently.

Yes, that's what's so frustrating about all this. I have several buddies that are UW alums. Apparently Sark was a regular at bars, getting shite faced on a regular basis. If someone like me can get this info how did Haden not get the memo?
Posted on 10/11/15 at 4:46 pm to GetCocky11
I believe so. Supposedly he is now going through a divorce and that is what has been making things worse for him.

We never heard them at the time, but a lot of the U-Dub posters have relayed stories in the past year about Sark having his watering holes where he was out of control. It sounded like their boosters were so fed up that they were looking for a way out when Pat Haden stepped in and took him off of their hands.
I really thought he would shape up after the booster event a few months ago.

All is forgiven when you're winning football games

Petersen made that arse quit. USCw fricked up not hiring him

True. I've seen both scenarios played out first hand where I work. One dude was so fricking high, he passed out in the back of his truck during lunch, when they found him, he admitted he needed help, and he entered a program. Although he never came back....
Other guy got busted because he had an accident on the job(a freak accident at that) and was busted for weed. Fired.
I work in a manufacturing environment, so I'm sure it's quite different than the CFB environment.

See Dana at WVU- Dude supposedly lives at Hotel so he can drink himself to sleep without getting into trouble.

It's all so tricky, and employers have to be careful, but I think Haden really dropped the ball when he didn't do something back in August.

Is Petersen some type of vodka that I am not aware of?

Hopefully Sark can turn his life around

Was hoping for a good game in Jerry world next year. USC is going to get whipped.

He's been on a short leash since he was getting thrown out of casinos earlier in his tenure. But yes, he has a drinking problem also and could go the same way as Steve

I'm sure this is not uncommon with coaches. Sark, however, appears unable to function

yeah you can see both sides... and this is a PR nightmare (ETA: I don't envy USCw's sports info/athletic communications office right now... I'm sure their phones are getting blown up)
now if members of the USCw admin caught him outside the office and he was completely gone... but sober enough to say "I have a problem and need help"... I'm guessing they're more than willing to help him than if they busted him like that and he got belligerent w/ them
