Conference Champeenships hurt but not the way you meant.

Think about it. LSU makes the SECCG. That means we have to spend a few hundred bucks on tickets, then more on gas, and then hotel rooms, etc.

Up comes the bowl game a few weeks later. Rinse, repeat. It adds up. That's just LSU and if LSU goes to Sugar, most fans are just paying for tickets and maybe a night or two at a hotel.

Suppose it's the Orange or Fiesta bowl? How many LSU fans are going to splurge twice in a month for that travel? It adds up.

I got free tickets and ended up going. It filled up more than what was in the picture, I was surprised Baylor brought a lot of people. I enjoyed it because I got to go for free, I’d say there was about 50k people there. I think the Sugar Bowl should be SEC vs at-large and the Cotton Bowl should be Big 12 vs at-large.

This is such a stupid comment and reeks of immaturity. Define “true fan”. Then define “fair- weather fan”. You think cause someone attends every game or travels to bowl games they are a better/bigger fan than those who don’t?

Grow up.

It's what happens when the playoff committee makes the shitty arse match ups.

Doesn't the Sugar have Bowl tie-ins with the SEC and Big 12? Pretty sure the playoff committee had ZERO to do with this matchup.

But the lack of attendance is probably caused by a number of things:

1) Georgia disappointment in not being in the Playoff.
2) Georgia fans not wanting to go to NOLA again.
3) Baylor

This is what happens when you're not one of the 4 playoff teams, and it's not the Rose Bowl. People don't care. If nearly a dozen of Georgia's players didn't care to play, or weren't able to play, why should the fans pay to see them play?

Was kinda surprised at how few Georgia fans. Stadium was half full. Crowd was majority Baylor fans.

I get that it meant more to Baylor, but Georgia has a huge fans base and a huge alumni base.

This is why I believe the playoffs will eventually expand. Teams as well as the fans are starting to care less and less about the other bowl games, even the classic NY6 games, since they aren't one of the 4 teams.

Should have been Baylor/Memphis in the Cotton Bowl, and Georgia/Penn State in the Sugar Bowl

That would have been a much more entertaining matchup

The tie-ins are what is killing the bowls

It forces terrible matchups like BU-UGA and repeat destinations year to year

Well that picture doesn't even show the Baylor side. That's all Georgia's side.

Wouldn't have been a repeat for Georgia if a) They win the SEC, or b) someone else in the East decides not to suck.

I could understand Georgia maybe going to the Orange and drawing better, but that doesn't change the likelihood that those 11 or 12 players end up playing, or whether or not the fans actually care to go watch their team play in a game that is not a playoff game.

Any NY6 game outside of the Playoff and the Rose Bowl is basically a consolation prize for anyone who had a shot at the playoff and failed to get there--especially for the #5 team. Teams like Memphis are going to play their arse off because of the opportunity they get. As such, the fans may not care where the team is unless it's the CFP, Rose Bowl, or a G5 team going to a big game.

But why would Georgia care at all whether they play in the Sugar or Orange when they were 1 win from being in the playoff again?

Sugar Bowl in back-to-back years and travelled to Baton Rouge last year after being so close to a NC win.

I get it.

Imagine if LSU is in the Peach Bowl next year (after losing the SECCG). I can't imagine that would be well attended.

I was at the game. It was probably the worst game I’ve ever attended atmosphere wise. I’ve been to more exciting high school games.

Baylor had twice the fans that Georgia did. I’d say there were 40k there max. Georgia fans didn’t even want to cheer

Hardly, Tulane can’t fill their 25,000 seat stadium when winning.
