Some of these schools like Melissa and Celina are on borrowed time because those districts are being overrun by Indians who likely wont be interested in playing football

I'll be at the Lake Travis game tonight. They are loaded on defense with 4 D1 commits. This will be their toughest test of the season though.

Probably have a handful of folks rooting against them this year with the issues surrounding the coach’s kid.

I think LT gets it done. Their tall order will be in the semis.

Allen vs LT in the championship would be epic

Think I'm going to head over to TDECU Stadium tonight and catch North Shore vs Dickinson. Good friend of mine coaches at Dickinson and should be a good game.

That’s a matchup to keep an eye on. Several 6A games could go either way. I feel like in years past, we have had many trash games in the regional final round.

My 6A picks to win:

Allen
Duncanville
North Shore
Lake Travis

SLC
DeSoto
Summer Creek
Dripping Springs

I could honestly see any of those 8 games going the other way.

Carthage always seems to be there. Impressive program for a pretty much isolated Texas town.

They have their own indoor practice facility.

Haynesville Shale money has rewarded their success with nice facilities, especially for a town of its size and location.

SOC vs PNG might be the gmae of the weekend. Winner probably wins state.

In Texas the even the best private schools would get their doors blown off by an average public.

Privates have some great athletes but not depth. But if you compare them to public schools their size, then they would absolutely hold their own. EHS and Kinkaid in Houston regularly play some public schools that are much larger than them and compete.

One of my favorite college memories was after I finished my finals before Christmas break my senior year, I went up to Jerry World to watch the Texas state championships. Blows Louisiana high school football (and really every other state) out of the water. It was Keelon Russell's sophomore year and they beat North Shore.

I went to high school with Derek Stingley and watching him was fun, but watching a game with a ton of Derek Stingley type prospects on the field is even better

Winner of that will play Randle or Iowa Colony for the title. Region IV isn’t going to compete in the semis IMO. Can’t sleep on Randle after them winning last year.

wow, you're right. Completely overlooked Randle. They've been blowing the doors off of opponents all season.

Looks like Randall Beat Iowa Colony in regular season by one score - should be a fun game tonight.

I think Randle over SOC last year would classify as a pretty big upset. SOC would be out for blood this year if that matchup happens.

Gunter 45, Leonard 14
Refugio 27, Mason 13

Both favorites moving on.

For the record, I have no issue having that many divisions, they're just classified awkwardly.

I believe there are about 1500 high schools in Texas that support football. Public schools make up maybe 1100? 1200? I’m purely guessing.

After dividing it up, I’ll admit it is a bit watered down. You have classes essentially made up of 125-150 teams vying for a championship. If you did away with D1 and D2, you can double that figure.

The reason D1 and D2 started was to combat the issue of a school playing someone that has more students. It started in 5A in 1990. At the time, 6A didn’t exist. You had 2 brackets, “Big School” and “Small School”. As there was no cap on the size of a school, you could have someone 2300 kids playing a school like Plano where they had 5000 students. The split alleviated that a bit. We have now managed to split every division, and 5A down to 2A are split before the season begins.

Again…it’s watered down significantly, but there’s still a much larger pool of participants per class than other states.

I agree with this.

Do not agree with this. Vandy won the State Championship last year... their program is slowly getting to consistently strong. They are legit good. Just not as good as LT or DS.

It's a shame that freshman, Doan is out with an injury - he was serious depth to that defense. Kid is going to be recruited by every top-tier football and baseball program in the country by the time his JR season rolls around.
