I think in the first round, the district champ is guaranteed to host the first round against the 4-seed they get paired with. After that, neutral sites come into play. I believe coaches can also flip a coin to try to get a home game. I’ve seen games in round 4 where a team gets a true home game.

a while back, canadian, texas played for the state championship at nrg stadium in houston. that's a 590 mile drive. i bet there are games played at a further distance. i remember back in the 70's longview played odessa permian in a semi final match at jones stadium in lubbock. that was only 473 miles.

Very hard for West Texas and Panhandle schools once later rounds hit. Travel is a bitch.

when plano was good and played permian we had charter flights. but when the uil got greedier and divided classes it created travel nightmares not only in the playoffs but district games. the school i work at has tyler in with cleburne for a district game. completely stupid. we are in the dfw and one year was looking at lubbock, amarillo, and el paso in the playoffs.

I miss when schools like Plano and Tyler were battling for the top. White flight and suburbia has made large class football crazy. A bunch of new schools pop up with names including “oak”, “lakes”, “ridge” etc. They kick arse for a few years, then a new school pops up. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

Drip is talented but it’s more program in the playoffs and they aren’t there yet.

It seems like every year, there are "Houston" area school in the playoffs that I've never heard of. Of course, I look them up to see they're in some area that wasn't considered part of Houston when I was growing up, and they're making playoffs in their first couple years of existence.

Yup. Then you have schools like Spring Dekaney, Richmond Randle, Katy Paetow, and Alvin Shadow Creek actually winning a state title. Dekaney sucks now, and Shadow Creek hasn’t really come close to getting back. Iowa Colony took up some of that district, and of course they are closing in on at least a region title. Pretty sure there’s another new one in Fort Bend this year…Crawford I think?

The same thing is going to happen north of Frisco. What’s happening up there is all these schools that were 2A and 3A are now going to become 5A and 6A unless they build more schools.

LT game was wild. They were down 13-0 early, outscored Johnson 27-6 in the 2nd quarter and not another point was scored by either team in the 2nd half. TCU commit Carter Buck had 4 sacks. Now at 22 for the season.

North Shore will be a very tough test for them.

Yes, Crawford is in year 3 of existence. It is off of 521 right out the backside of Sienna. They are taking a bunch of kids who would've been zoned to Ridge Point. Basically, all of the new neighborhoods off 521 and the entire back (Sawmill/Newest area) of Sienna is zoned now or will be soon to Crawford.

I think Dripping absolutely rolled them in the regular season, right?

Updated matchups. We had 4 games last night. Of note, #1 Refugio goes down to Joaquin after being up 28-14 in the 4th.

I can’t believe Dripping Springs is now a 6A school.

Wall beats Gunter. Lone Star knocks off Aledo. Stephenville takes down Celina.

Huge wins for those schools. Some perennial powers are out, and new blood moves on (although Stephenville isn’t new blood, I’d rather them over Celina).
