Stopped in Hillsboro for a burger.

Upon reflecting, Wall was lucky there. Not just the onside recovery but the turnovers and Newton’s inability to run a uptempo offense. When you see that Newton is winning most games 70-X, you’d think that they could sling it. Not so fast my friend. All rushing. massive runs all season. 3 and 5 averaged 15+ yards per carry on less than 10 carries the majority of the season. A few games they had 100+ yards in <5 carries. So in hindsight 300+yards rushing with only 2 TDs that were inside the 5 is actually impressive from a defensive standpoint.

No second half points was almost the dagger. #3 from Newton was a straight baller.

Newton played really sloppy honestly on offense and then the blocked punt TD was the difference

Like 3-4 fumbles. That cooked their goose in the end

Friday's games have some teams that were dominant in the past.

11 a.m. Kilgore vs. Stephenville (4A Division 1)

Stephenville in the 90's
1993 4A - Stephenville 26, La Marque 13
1994 4A - Stephenville 32, La Marque 17
1998 4A Division II - Stephenville 34, La Marque 7
1999 4A Division II - Stephenville 28, Port Neches-Groves 18

West Orange Stark in the 80's
1986 4A - West Orange-Stark 21, McKinney 9
1987 4A - West Orange-Stark 17, Rockwall 7
1988 4A - Paris 31, West Orange-Stark 13

Randy Crouch was a bright young offensive assistant on the West Orange Stark coaching staff that went to those championship games. His son Ryan is the OC at Navarro Junior College now. Randy was inducted into the LaTech Athletic HOF for his play as an offensive lineman this fall. Randy moved back to Ruston and is in George Stone's Sunday school class with me.

Stephenville beat Ruston earlier this season.

Kilgore’s only loss was to Carthage.

Both teams blew through the rest of their schedule, including the playoffs.

I loved those clashes with Stephenville and LaMarque. Classes hadn’t quite been watered down yet, and it was basically two dynasties going at the same time.

Couldn’t watch this one, working today. What happened to make this just a 10-0 game? Was it just old school defensive football?

I attended lots of HS games in the Dallas area. from 1983-2010. I lived a block away from Lake Highlands, and walked over to several games, but traveled all over the metroplex to games.

I was at the Denton Ryan game at Southlake Carroll that was the 1st high school game televised on ESPN. Ryan had senior DE Jarvis Moss on that team. He was probably Urban Meyers top recruit at Florida in a loaded signing class. They beat Carroll that night.

Used to go to the 2nd week of the playoffs at Texas Stadium and watch games from 11am to 11 pm. Saw Rex Burkhead play RB, safety, punter and punt returner in a game out there. Sat in a corner with Steve Lineweaver's Euless Trinity Polynesian parents while they did the Haka. Saw Joey McGuire's Cedar Hill teams have fun while winning. Saw some of those good Wylie teams that broke their huddle with "AHMO" and heard their fans follow it with "Whip that arse." All of that was from one day in Irving.

The guy I usually went with had played & coached under Coach Linewaver at Commerce when they won 3A. He knew then West Mesquite coach Mike Overton, a former Tennessee LB, who had some great teams there. The most memorable West Mesquite game I went to was a playoff game at Highland Park. In the 1st quarter three flags were thrown on a kickoff. It looked like a block from behind by HP. The officials huddled with some guy in a suit on the HP sidelines, then waved off the call and never explained anything to Overton. My buddy said they must have gotten an extra day at somebody's hunting camp!

Went to South Grand Prairie games at the Gopher Bowl with a lady who graduated there when they had BJ Johnson and the Booth kid who went to Rice playing WR. Saw the 90's Lewisville teams that steamrolled that South Grand Prairie team at Lewisville. Drove to Longview and sat on the grass hill behind one endzone when Longview beat Allen with a running QB they couldn't tackle. Allen's band took up all of the visiting stands.

Another year my South Grand Prairie friend and I watched Longview and Dallas Carter play at Corsicana's 10K seat Tiger Stadium when it was brand new. Carter's band played some Hip Hop song and did a dance routine that had the Longview fans scratching their heads. Longview got the win.

Nice graphic here.

Pretty much. Believe Kilgore turned the ball over 4 times. Both defenses played well, Stephenville's was better.

Scoreless first half

Stephenville opened the half with a long run and then a long throw into the endzone . 3 play TD drive . They tacked on a field goal a little later on.

KJ Edwards goes untouched for a 90-yd TD on the second play of the game for Carthage.

Carthage keeps rolling 28-0 at half, but West Orange Stark is the more interesting team. Their head coach is named Hiawatha, and their running back is 5’3”, but can squat 500 lbs.

You’ve no doubt seen some great ball. I’ve mostly seen games down here in the South. State champs aren’t coming from my neck of the woods, but HS football is one of those things where you can enjoy it from all aspects and levels. I did see the all-time winningest coach, Phil Danaher, many times. I’ve seen some good Gregory-Portland squads, La Marque during their heyday, some great Rio Grande Valley rivalries. I’ve been to legendary Alamo Stadium, and bumped into Dabo on the sidelines after Vandegrift/Katy semis a few years ago.

Fun stuff…

I turned it off at 21-0 Carthage

Glad to see it only became much more ugly after that
