I don't disagree.
Bur vhampionships are won with animal pens now. Unless you're the Dodgers of course.
Suarez has 76 saves the last 2 years. Dude is elite.
Allegedly he's going to be the 8th inning guy and close when Iggy can't go and will be the closer next year and in '28 when Iggy leaves.

Like the Yaz signing a lot. Very consistent, creates a lot of flexibility, really like the skill set. Great eye and elite OF defense with some real pop against righties. Great 4th OF.
You're doing a lot with the word "great" there.
Yaz is 35 and trending down big time from a career that hasn't seen an OPS over .770 in seasons where he has had 400+ ABs. Not to mention coming off a season where his xBA, xSLG and barrel rate where all below average. He's better than Kelenic, but he does nothing to move the needle in what was a putrid offense last season.
Kind of like you saying you'd rather money from a reliever go to offense, I'd rather next to no money go to a 4th OF and use it instead for actual offense.

Yes they’ve hit on a few but I don’t think it’s wise to spend 15% of your payroll on 2 35 year old relievers when you don’t have an everyday shortstop.
Not getting a reliable SS after 3 years with seemingly no intention to fill this void is one of the few gripes I have with AA. I'm still cool with spending some money on bullpen, but going without a good SS is troubling if you are serious about consistently competing for a WS.

We can sign anyone at this point at that’s all fine and good, but we’re not a serious franchise until we make a legitimate move for a bonafide SS.
If we open the season with Duban in the lineup, AA needs to be fired for bullshite

Re-signed HSK on a 1yr/$20m deal.
Don't hate it, but I still hope we look for a bigger answer at SS at the deadline if we're in contention.
We still need to grab a big bat for the lineup.

Soooo...
C: Baldwin/Murphy
1B: Olson
2B: Ozzie
3B: Riley
SS: HSK
LF: Profar
CF: Harris
RF: Acuna
DH: Baldwin/Murphy
Banking on a lot of dudes to revert to their pre-2024 forms. Olson is what he is at this point, he'll have a torrid month or two and then be ice cold for the same amount of time. Riley needs to get his shite together. Love Ozzie, but I fear he is cooked. I'm bullish on Harris taking a step forward this season, I think he figured something out middle of last season. Hopefully 2026 Ronald two years removed from knee surgery produces similar results as 2023. Really hope we make a legit DH signing. Don't like the idea of Murphy getting a bunch of AB's, especially in a spot that is expected to produce.

Probably the single biggest key to the offense turning around. He has had a pretty bad (relative to expectations) two seasons.

Yeah, I don't feel great about him at the moment. For the money he is making, his last two years have torpedoed us.

I don't either. It seems like the league has figured him and Harris out. I'm not nearly as bullish on Harris as you are because his walk rate never improved and he was atrocious again in September.
Riley has fallen back into that old bad habit of chasing every slider off the plate.

I think Harris' ability to hit the frick out of the ball when he does make contact can be a suitable leadoff or 2-hole bat with the proper protection i.e. I want Ronald hitting behind him.

I think Riley wasn't fully recovered from his wrist injury at the end of the '24 season. As we've seen with Ozzie, it takes around 14-16 months to fully recover as Ozzie finally looked like his old self the last couple of months of last year(I disagree that he's cooked). So given that timeline, Riley should be fully healthy from the get this season and hopefully his numbers will reflect that
Also remember about Harris is that he just turned 25, so he's now entered his prime.

I would like to see Harris in the 9-hole personally.

What a shock… Steelers thinks every player will improve with no data to back it up other than plucky belief that his team is better than any other team.
Just like every offseason thread. How long before disappear and change usernames again?

Trade Ozzie for some pitching. Sign Bichette to play 2nd.

Braves were a finalist to sign Diaz.

quote:
Díaz had already received two contract offers -- one of three years from the Los Angeles Dodgers and another of five years from the Atlanta Braves. Díaz, though miffed by the Mets not alerting him before signing free agent reliever Devin Williams a few days before, still wanted to wait for an offer
The offer came on Dec. 7: three years, $66 million with $21 million deferred over 10 years. Negotiations continued from there, and the Mets ultimately produced another offer, adding a $9 million signing bonus to match the Dodgers, with the $21 million deferred over 15 years.
But Díaz, who turns 32 in March, wanted an annual average value of at least $20 million after deferrals were taken into account and less deferred money spread over a shorter period. The Mets, according to a source, refused to meet those terms. The Braves, though offering more years, also declined to meet the criteria.

I saw that report, too. No way AA offered a 5 year contract to a reliever.
