Kirilenko had to have picked his number on purpose just for nickname's sake.

A better nickname for Kobe is The Sodomizer

I forget which playstation NBA game it was, but every time rodman did something it would go...."The worm!" so I'm going to go with that one

The Worm is a good nickname.

The Ice Man was a good one too...until Val Kilmer made it gay.

yes

shaq was the one that gave him that nickname in 2001.

After a Lakers' victory over the Celtics in 2001, O'Neal pulled a Boston reporter over and gestured toward his notepad. "Take this down", said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the motherfricking truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

to be a great nickname it usually has to seem specific to the person somehow. If it's a generic positive it's really hard to lay claim to the word

so to me the nicknames like

Air Jordan
The Diesel - actually undermined as a nickname cause people say Shaq instead
The Dream - because of the ryhming and the dream shake I guess
Pistol Pete - loved to shoot not to pass
Big Baby - probably the most physically perfect nickname going

Are the ones that stick, I like other ones from kinda contemporary players like

Big Shot Rob
The Mailman Malone
The Big Fundamental

But I'm guessing only The Mailman will still be memorable as a nickname of that group years from now. Duncan will be largely forgotten and underestimated by non purists less than 10 years after he retires IMO
