Throw in the fact that he never beat UF when he was at Tennessee and you have the very definition of a goat.

Losing in a Super Bowl negatively affects a quarterback's legacy in the minds of dipshits who watch First Take.

Tee Martin
Heck, Casey Clausen was 2-0 @ The Swamp.
Manning never beat UF.

Manning has choked away more big games and championships than he ever won. The OP is laughable.

Manning is the greatest and the smartest QB to have played the position of quarterback.
This is the truth, and it's the statement EVERYONE ignores when they try to argue against the fact. NO ONE has come even REMOTELY CLOSE to playing the position like he does.

in the playoffs, a lot of quarterbacks have been much, much better.

You really can't lose the biggest game in football by 5 touchdowns and have it have no effect on your legacy.
So you are saying his legacy would be better if the Broncos had gone 8-8 and missed the playoffs completely, rather than win two playoff games including the AFCCG against Brady and lose in the Super Bowl.
It is all about what he has done over many years. Not just one game or one drive.

I've always felt that Manning doesn't have quite the competitive edge and fire that a lot of other greats have had
He's always lacked the "it factor" - the ethereal thing we can't define but is very very real.
Like obscenity, it can't be defined but "I know it when I see it."

What he's done over many years? Okay. The "big game" nonsense has followed him throughout his career. He never could beat Florida in college, got crushed by Nebraska in his final collegiate game, and has constantly underperformed in January throughout his entire NFL career. That's including eight, count them, EIGHT one-and-done playoff appearances.
Yeah...his stats in the regular season are amazing and are definitely worthy of Top 5 status, but his performances in the playoffs have been abysmal. If you want to be remembered as the greatest player to ever play your position, you have to finish the deal more often than not.

It's very real. I feel like Peyton sort of got used to losing all the way back in college. He could never win the big game even then.
On the other hand, a guy like Tom Brady came into the league and won right away. So right away, nothing less than winning was acceptable. He is one of the most fiery and competitive guys in the league, simply because that's all he has known from a young age. When he loses, it's not the norm for him. It eats at him. When Peyton loses, it's just what he's used to.
That might sound dumb, but I truly believe it. Peyton is a frontrunner.

I think I remember in the old days the QB did not have a speaker in his helmet to help him call plays. They did not have iPads to look at the defensive settings as the came off the field.
The did not have a PC to study game film at a moments notice.
Without all that available QBs like Unitas and Starr were able to call their own plays and win championships. I think they were a bit smarter than Manning.
