No, he wouldn't. Tiger is a prodigy. Don't compare Phil to Tiger, it's not fair. Compare Phil to Ernie, Vijay, Furyk, and people like that.

I meant that he could be like watson or trevino or palmer. he could possibly get to 10 majors. he has more talent than furyk and vijay. he has a lot more potential.

no one can be compared to tiger. not even nicklaus.

I don't have a problem with the occasional loss of temper from an athlete. I understand that it happens especially with ultra competitive types. However, Woods is getting to the point where he has a fit just about every time he hits a bad shot, which makes him look like a brat IMO.

The thing is though, it's either right or wrong. The fact that Woods is the best player on the planet makes it no different than if Sergio Garcia does it.

the reason he is doing it a lot now is that he is changing some things with his swing. he can do it correctly on the range but is having some issues with taking it to the course (mostly with hitting the driver to the right). he is getting very frustrated especially when everyone is calling for haney's head. not saying this is an excuse, it is just my thoughts on why he does it so much lately.

this is what makes him great. it is called focus. if mickelson had it, he could rival tiger.

Not necessarily. I remember hearing about Joe Montana in the huddle during the game winning drive of a Super Bowl, talking about seeing John Candy in the stands. Arnold Palmer and Lee Trevino interacted with fans all the time. Depends on the individual. For some, Woods for one, John McEnroe is another that comes to mind, intensity is/was imperative. For others, a relaxed demeanor seems to work better.

I saw Eldrick (pre Tiger) in a youth tournament in 1991 when he was 16. He had a filthy mouth then.

true. i guess it is something other than focus that makes him the most dominant athlete of our generation. he talks about how he doesn't even remember hitting golf shots in major championships and how everything is in slow motion. i don't think this is something that can be taught. tiger just has it.

No big deal. "Reading his lips" is only a problem because the camera zooms in on his face and the producer cuts to that screen. Athletes have always done that. In the past TV cut to a different angle so they wouldn't show it. The loss of decorum is on the part of the TV producers.

Slamming the club down is mild. Staring down a spectator is justified if they made a sudden noise on your backswing.

so, prior to the British, Tiger had finished top ten in 17 of the past 17 tournaments.

The second highest person in top 10 finishes needed over 40 tournaments just to be second.

So, now Tiger has finished top ten in 17/18 tournaments he's played in. Again, the second highest person has played in more than twice as many tournaments as Tiger.

Also, consider that Tiger didn't play competitive golf for 9 months and has still managed to accomplish this.

He is by far the most dominant golfer in the world. Heck, he was the most dominant golfer of last year and he sat out 65-75% of the year. He's just that good.

But does he owe the game and it's fans more respect and should his on course behavior improve?

Yes.
He is respected for his talent by everyone, but it shouldn't give him a free pass for his behavior. Fair or not, he is a "role model" and his profanity is becoming legendary. It would be one thing if he muttered it, but he yells it. I's amazing that the talking head" on golf broadcast never call him out on this.

I don't think anyone is disputing this.

In fact I would add that if he continues at this pace is certain to pass Jack Nicklaus in majors and will be the concensus greatest in history. But he has to do it first. Odds are in his favor.

What about being a role model for his own child?

My guess is that some of the older veterans that are close to Tiger will mention this to him and that he will mellow.

This is off the subject but is Hank Haney really helping him?

Agreed. Until he actually passes Jack, and he most likely will, Jack is still the greatest.

One other piont that makes Tiger's run even more incredible is the amount of scrambling he does. Dude misses a ton of fairways. Can you imagine the Tiger package w/ higher driving accuracy? That would be incredible.

Exactly.... Tiger is NO JACK. Not yet. He has a damn good chance of going 0fer this year in majors. Never forget how difficult it is to do what Tiger is doing and what Nicklaus did. 18 is a HUGE number. What is more ridiculous is the number of times Jack was second. To be the man you must beat the man. Any argument for Tiger is just crap until he gets to 18.

I have no problem with the cursing - he usually does it somewhat under his breath. Slamming the club Friday was out of line particularly at The Open where they revere their courses. He left a huge mark on the tee box. He should have taken some heat over that.

tiger is far ahead of what jack did at this point in his career. it took jack over 100 more tournaments entered to get to 68 wins than it did tiger. it also took jack 10 more majors to get to 14 than it did tiger. jack also never won a scoring title and only won 5 POY awards. tiger will get to 18 and will get there soon. what's funny is that people will start saying he needs more second place finishes to be the best ever.

oh yeah, and jack won his 15th major on his 67th start. the british last week was tiger's 49th major start.

I think it's more of an issue of his ego is too big to admit he went down the wrong road with his swing. At some point he needs to bite the bullet and go back to Butch
