Definition of a football move
Completed catch.
quote:
When a catch is made by a receiver who comes down with both feet on the ground, the "football move" would be: stretching for a first down, diving out-of-bounds or running with the ball. If the "football move" is accomplished, and the receiver is then hit and the ball comes out, it is ruled a catch and fumble, instead of an incomplete forward pass.
Completed catch.

Eye witness testimony is very unreliable.

Also true.

The ref on Fox was saying its not about the steps
Thats insane

UNTIL a football move is made. He made one in switching hands and extending that ball. That is a very key part to the rule. Otherwise it would apply to all catches.

quote:Damn. That is indisputable a TD then. He 100% stretched for the goal line

That definitely unclear if a football move is made or not. correct ruling should be call on field stands. I don't get how people can forget the rule that is required to overturn a call. That itself trumps the catch rule in this case. It is not clear and indisputable.
Exactly. It was driving me insane that none of the NFL "experts" on Fox brought this up.

Yes, it's that simple. Not sure how anyone could see otherwise. It was called correctly according to the rules.

Even the official on Fox mentioned the football move but mentioned he ' was not sure if it was enough' the very fact that its insure is enough to make the ruling on the field stand.

It's not. It's about maintaining control through the catch. That's what makes it incomplete, not the steps.

Here is a still image of the bottom of the football, centimeters from the ground. Notice Bryant's elbow also on the ground.
Here is a still image milliseconds later where the back of Bryant's hand is clearly visible, meaning it is certainly not under the football. The ball hits the ground as clear as day. A football move and the interpretation of the rule can be argued all day, but if you're going to argue whether or not the ball hits the ground then you come across as a biased observer.

Irrelevant. Not what happened. See my earlier post.

That's debatable.

Are there really people in here arguing the ball never touched the ground...

So then the call should stand
Posted on 1/11/15 at 3:50 pm to Byron Bojangles III
If its not about the steps then a 70 yard run should be an incompletion also if the ball bobbles on the ground right ?
Only and idiot ref would call that an incompletion.

Yes. Several arguing that and also claiming they're unbiased.
