Yeah, it's dumb to be mad at him. If he has the means to tell his employer to screw off it's well within his rights.

What does the contract say about playing baseball during national emergencies? Or requiring seclusion in a hotel for months at a time?

You don’t consider that a little more than “inconvenient”?
No

Pregnant wife at home. Secluded in a hotel for months. Doing nothing but playing baseball and going back to the hotel.
“Inconvenient.”

“Inconvenient.”

What would you call it? No one’s safety or well being is at stake. And if he wants to leave, he can. He just can’t play baseball AND not be quarantined. Sounds like a matter of convenience and not necessity to me

Inconvenient is working from home.
Inconvenient is playing moving to Arizona or Florida to play every game.
Being on lockdown and not seeing your family for months at a time is surely more than inconvenient. If you can’t admit that, there’s no use continuing with it.

No, you take a quick turnaround test and when it clears, you rejoin the team.
This whole thing relies on consistent accurate testing.

Enough players decide to do that there is no mlb.

You say this as if there aren’t varying levels of inconvenience. Sometimes life isn’t fair. I didn’t say it wouldn’t suck or be undesirable but it is what it is, inconvenient. It wouldn’t ultimately be harmful to anyone.
Regardless, how “convenient” is it for the league minimum guy who can’t earn a paycheck this season because multi-millionaire Mike Trout can’t be away from his family for a few months when he’s gone half the time as is during the season.

So you are saying there are players better than Trout waiting to take his place?

I just don’t think it’s necessary. As long as you don’t have fans it should be okay to play sports.
The idea is not to overwhelm the health system. Cutting out 90%+ of the people at a sporting event (the fans and support staff like concessions and security) accomplishes just that.
You don’t have to quarantine the players/coaches/umpires/broadcasters because the general public being isolated is successfully flattening the curve.
And I think most people will understand the above groups having special movement/interaction privileges in order to bring back sports.

I say I don’t care what a high school grad says.

Considering what they get paid, I don’t think it hurts them much.
If you don’t want to do it, give up your check.

I dont care if the teams are filled with AA players. I just want to see a ball game.

Compare Trout to a soldier on his 4th tour in Afghanistan. Gross.
Consider how much joy Trout's minor "sacrifice" would bring to countless Americans who want to see a ballgame?
What a selfish prick. I dislike him now and never had a problem with him before.
