Tulane, Memphis, West Virginia to ACC.

SMU to Big 12.

Cal and Stanford to Pac12.

Way too logical so this definitely will not happen.

I’m all for capitalism and free markets, but financial considerations are making an absolute mess of college football.

at the end of the day conferences are not gonna matter when the top spending teams break away and have their own league

They already did, they're called the B1G and the SEC.

I’m kind of okay with 8 teams since it gives Tulane/Memphis FIVE noncon games to play historic southern opponents.

Except it likely wouldn't stay at just 8 teams. 8 is just the minimum number required for the conference to have an automatic qualifier in NCAA championship tournaments and for a spot in the CFP as one of the 5 highest ranked conference champs.

Even if it only starts as 8 teams, eventually they're going to expand to get more lucrative TV contracts.

yeah but you have some teams in the SEC that may not be able to keep up
and how will this endless stream of money keep flowing when a team goes ten years with nothing to show for it

I think what he’s saying is that there will be a new subdivision…FBS will be two different and distinct things.

B1G/SEC might be that in principle but they’re still masquerading as conferences and it’s kind of silly. Just break them off into a new subdivision and organize that subdivision regionally so we don’t have this nonsense of east and west coast teams occupying the same conference.

You mean like Vandy who in the past 10 years has only been bowl eligible twice and won a total of 12 SEC games in that span?

They will keep cashing their check from the SEC equal revenue sharing and continue going about trying to win 1 or 2 conference games a year.

New PAC leadership has gone on record that they don’t want to go past 10 for now. We’ll see if that remains the case.

The PAC-8 is not where Tulane should go and would be horrible for them AND the conference

They should stay put in the American and go ACC when Clemson and friends jump to the SEC.

Word on the street (aka the internet message boards) is that the AAC's payout to Tulane will decrease with the next tv deal. Right now the new members are only receiving a partial share so Tulane and the legacy members are receiving more money for now.

Also, I don’t think the ACC thing is happening.

If it does, it'll be so many years from now they could just leave from the PAC and go to ACC.

Bottom line is that it looks like the new PAC is going to be the 5th best conference if they get Tulane and Memphis, and (sadly) that's all that really matters. It's the right move for Tulane in this stupid new world.

If Tulane actually becomes a power level team, it will be easier to sell to the media if you are adding them from the PAC-12 (vs. the AAC) in the 2030s

Keyword: "for now"

Eventually the TV partners are going to encourage them to add more members because with 10 teams, you might only have 3-4 games a weekend that are PAC team home games (where PAC would have TV rights). More teams = more games = better matchups for TV partners to choose from.

And with the new PAC being a G5 level conference, they aren't going to get many marquee non-conference games that are PAC home games. P4 schools rarely agree to home-and-homes with G5 opponents. So the PAC needs decent conference games to sell their TV rights.

I think the PAC will only add 3 more full members to get to 9. Tulane/Memphis and then 1 of UNLV/UTSA. I think they’d prefer UNLV. This lets them play full round robin 8 game conference schedule.

Then they will try to lure Gonzaga to be the 10th member for basketball. I think that would maximize their TV value.

If they were to go to 10 football, I’d guess unlv/UTSA both get in. Then they add Gonzaga as 11 for basketball. If they wanted a second basketball, I’ve seen st. Mary’s thrown out but I think Wichita State would make more sense

I think Tulane has to take the chance. The AAC ship be sinking. Bail out now and prepare for the ACC invite in a few years.

If Tulane and Memphis are offered, I think they should go. PAC is better than AAC even though the other 10 schools bolted.

PAC should add Gonzaga and Wichita State for other sports and maybe one other school for football.
