The biggest rivalry in sports is the Old Firm and it's not even remotely close.

I guess it's the biggest in NCAA basketball, but it is not bigger than...
Yankees / Red Sox
Celtics / Lakers
Bears / Packers
to name a few...

I would rather watch UK vs. Louisville each year over the UNC/Duke game. As for football, OSU/Mich hasnt been big since 2006. I think the LSU/Bama regular season game is a bigger deal then OSU/Mich anymore.

I have friends who went to Duke and they've said that while intense, it's not on the same level as Red River, UT/A&M or other CFB rivalries in the South. Duke kids come from all over the country and live all over the country after they graduate, so it's not the same as having the Texas people or the Auburn people who live near you and grew up with you. The regional rivalries among public schools like that are 365 days of shite talking.

OSU/Michigan is big every year. Both teams could suck and it'd be big. Bama/UF was huge 08-10. It then faded now that UF sucks. If LSU or Bama start sucking, its importance will diminish significantly because it's not a rivalry. Army/Navy quite honestly is not one of the top 200 football games of the entire season (as far as quality of play/national impact). Yet there is no doubt it's one of the top ten rivalries in the sport, likely top five.
You're confusing rivalry with big/important game. There's a difference.

Not sure if serious ... At least the UNC/Duke games in the past 30 years, for the most part, have been close games. Neither program has been down, if any, but for more than a yr or two.

Well, no kidding, you're a Kentucky fan, every other CBB fan would rank the Duke/UNC game over it.
I'm not sure what 'biggest' rivalry even means, but CFB is much bigger than CBB and Michigan and Ohio State have two of the largest fan bases in the country. Tough to beat that. It should be no surprise though that Vitale, a CBB analyst, said this. I grew up in Raleigh so this rivalry feels the biggest to me, but I know I'm in the minority.

I think rivalries that only play 1 time a year have to be bigger...364 days to hate until you get a chance at redemption

He's not a Kentucky fan.
I think by Cats he means Tigers.

vOSU/Mich isn't really a known rivalry outside of B1G country. I mean it's known, but no one is going to mention it among the greatest rivalries IMO.
droppie nominee for idiotic post of the year.

Well, at Thanksgiving not one person in my family mentions the OSU/Michigan game. It's all Iron Bowl. Now I'm in Alabama obviously, but I doubt anyone up there is talking Iron Bowl over the turkey. Depends on where you live.

I don't think you're allowed to nominate anyone. Because I have no idea who you are.

And I won't argue that Duke/UNC is the biggest in CBB. I think it is, although people may disagree with that. But I can probably think of 10 that are bigger in sports without even thinking
