There are more Dallas fans in the 901 than any other fanbase. If you told me there were more Steelers supporters than Titans fans, I would take your word for it.

The Titans have zero presence here.

I wonder more about what college the majority of people cheer for. You're in Tennessee but Knoxville is way on the other side of the state and basically in a different world. Ole Miss is pretty close by to the south but in another state.

I think Ole Miss and Tennessee are about equal and there are also a lot of Arkansas and State fans. Since Alabama became good again, I see a lot of them now too. There are also a lot of um, Memphis Tiger, fans in Memphis.

Bayou. One of my favorite joints in the whole damned city.

As an outsider, Nashville seems more uppity and (white-collar) while Memphis seems more blue-collar.

I had a blast in Memphis FWIW.

Talk about a busy sports history...

-Memphis Redbirds/Chicks have been a premier MiLB staple.
-Hosted the NFL one season with the Tennessee Oilers. Many people forget that the Titans name was adopted after the move to Memphis.
-Liberty Bowl is a long-standing bowl in today’s era of a new game sprouting up in soccer stadiums
-I know they’ve had minor league hockey
-MidSouth Coliseum wrestling scene
-ABA with the Pros/Tams/Sounds
-NBA’s Grizzlies...and the Grindhouse
-The Pyramid was a badass looking building, pretty sure it hosted Tyson v Lennox Lewis
-Memphis Basketball has had some big moments ranging from Dana Kirk’s ‘85 squad, Penny Hardaway, and the Calipari teams.
-Can’t forget the Southmen of the WFL who adopted a Grizzly logo and tried to recreate the Miami Dolphins backfield
-Reggie White and the Showboats of the USFL

...that is a lot of teams and Sports represented

I’ve always thought it was weird that the Grizzlies never made any attempt to attract fans from Arkansas. Our basketball program was so bad the last few years I think they could have developed a fanbase in the area.

Does Memphis still claim the titles of worst "big town that likes to call itself a real city" in the south?

For one Memphis was, when I lived there, the most racist/intolerant city in the south. The divide between the haves and the have nots was wide. It's like Oxford on steroids.

Do you dispute this?

The reason they like the Cardinals is because we have the triple A team, no one gives a shite about the actual city of St Louis

That's not exactly true. A lot of Cardinals fans were in Memphis before the Redbirds got there. Long before all the tv broadcasts people grew up listening to Jack Buck on the radio. There are also a good bit of Cubs and Braves fans in Memphis.

If I had to guess, I'd say Cowboys, then Steelers then Titans.

Although they broadcast all the Titans games and talk-in shows here.

In true Memphis fashion, the more the Titans win, the more people will cheer for them.

Memphis is a fairly tolerant city for the most part but I will say that the local media likes to stir the pot a bit. There is a large divide between the haves and haves not in Memphis though. It’s extremely obvious.

As far as NFL fan preferences go you’ll always have your bandwagon Cowboys and Steelers fans but the novice fans will support the Titans simply because they are an instate team.

I agree 100% with that. Every single station broke into regular programming to cover the removal of the monuments the other night.

To me, the whole dang thing is stupid, and the way the city did it is underhanded as can be. And likely not legal.

Nashville sold out their culture, Memphis has not. Nashville wants to be the new Atlanta. Memphis wants to be a better Memphis.

Yes. It's weird. It does have an aura of being racially divided, but at the same time, blacks and whites intermingle more than most cities. And the racism works both ways in Memphis. If you want to call Memphis anything it's the biggest town in America. It's very difficult, from what I've seen, for people not from the area to really make it.

Lived in Memphis for 12 years, I never could get the great love for the Cowboys with people driving around town with Cowboys window flags all season long. There were lots of Saints fans inside of the city.
