Jamarcuss Russell... Not even close..............

It's because how much he got paid guaranteed.

The Incredible Bulk was a bust but he had a decent career and wasn't getting paid like J-fatty.

Russell turned into one of the biggest busts in NFL history, playing only 31 games and throwing for 18 touchdowns and 23 interceptions. What makes him a bigger flop is the ridiculous money -- $39 million collected for three years of doing nothing.

Let's put this in perspective: It took Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers until November of last year to make $39 million. That's six-and-a-half years of decent work for what Russell basically stole.

Yeah I think that puts Russell at #1 followed by Leaf and Richardson

He rarely gets mentioned as a candidate for the biggest bust, but he was awful. His completion % was below 50%. He made a ton of money as the 3rd pick also.

Ricki Williams is up there, but it has more to do with the Saints trading 8 picks to get him.

Dude was on his way to a possible Mvp before getting hurt in year 2 and had an 1800 yd season for Miami and 10k for his career plus the Saints got 2 firsts for him that’s haedly a bust.

Now the original trade was idiotic and lazy but that’s not his fault

The Saints gave up 8 picks over two years for him, and only got half of that back when they traded him to Miami.

It's considered one of the worst trades in the history on the NFL. That is enough to put it in the discussion of biggest busts.

Yeah, I already said this.

ETA: I guess you could say this goes into the worst picks category rather than biggest busts. It's up there with Tampa Bay using the #1 overall pick on a player that flat out told them he would never play a down for them.

Yeah I include picks that turn out horribly for the franchise as busts, regardless of how the players career progresses after they move on. It doesn't make sense but I do it all the time.

No it’s not a bust is a player that doesn’t pan out, Williams was on a borderline HOF track

It was 1999! The league had already shifted to full on 7-on-7 flag football passing league.

8 draft picks? For a running back?

Terrell Davis was drafted in the 6th round.

Curtis Martin the 3rd round.

You could pick panhandlers outside of the Waffle House to be servicable running backs in the NFL.

It's the worst move in NFL history for players that are a dime a dozen, marginal impact in a passing league and short shelf-lives.

I wonder if JM could have had more of a career and been much better had the Raiders not picked him.

There were a shite organization at the time and he really had no chance once they drafted him.

It was a stupid stupid trade made by Ditka cause he’s lazy. But you are exaggerating about the league and RB at the time. Ki-Jana Carter was the #1 pick just 4 years earlier. Edgerrin James was picked 1 spot in front of Williams, Lawrence Phillips went 6 in 96, Curtis Enis 5 97 Jamal Lewis 5 2000 and Tomlinson went 4 2001. Where he was picked was fine and he lived up to it, hence not a bust but certainly one of the dumbest trades ever

That's a cop-out that I hear too often.

As a Raider fan I've read enough stories about him.

Sure, were the Raiders the Pats? No.

But they were no more dysfunctional than the Cowboys...and they tried coaches left and right after Chucky left.

All the stories say Russell was just lazy as shite, wouldn't work or study the playbook and just wanted to playground it out there.

Ricki Williams was not a bust. Diktat just made a ridiculous trade for him and Williams signed an asinine contract to top it off.

Yeah I'm on board with this now. Not a bust, just one of the worst draft picks of all time, which has to do with that the franchise gave up and then got out of the player.

I mean, even Randy Moss, the greatest receiver of his time, couldn't produce there because the whole team was fricked up. So it isn't a total cop out. The wheels came off with Callahan and stayed off.

This seemed to be true for everyone on the team. It was a team wide dysfunction, but ya, he already had the attributes to succumb to laziness before he got there. If he goes somewhere else, maybe he gets pulled out of it, but no hope in the black hole that was Oakland then.

Tony Mandarich. Wasn’t nearly as good as he was incollege because he couldn’t use steroids. He was picked 2nd in a top 5 that included Aikman, Barry Sanders, Derrick Thomas and Deion Sanders.

It's Ryan Leaf. Remember that there was a debate about who was better: Ryan Leaf or Peyton Manning. For him to implode so spectacularly, is top-tier bust.

Jamarcus Russell just got paid a lot because of the old CBA (which had nothing to do with him); many thought he was overrated and predicted him being a complete failure.

Russell went 1st because he was big and had a big arm but most importantly because of an abysmal QB class.
2007 drafted QBs:
Jamarcus Russell
Brady Quinn
Kevin Kolb
John Beck
Drew Stanton
Trent Edwards
Isaiah Stanback
Jeff Rowe
Troy Smith
Jordan Palmer
Tyler Thigpen

See, Russell wasn't loved. He was just the least stinky turd at QB.

Vernon Gholston

6th overall pick
16 career tackles
0 career sacks

At least Jamarcus and Leaf threw 1 touchdown
