Ban the coaches for the season. Not the players.

This is another example of how the LHSAA doesn't get it. I completely agree that a coach should be made an example out of. If they will sit a coach for the season this crap will stop immediately. Kenny Henderson and company decide to punish the kids who put in all the time and effort to play for a state championship.

They had an opportunity to send a message that a coach needs to have control over his program and to respect the game...they dropped the ball.
I was a head varsity baseball coach in LA...trust me, it was a message that needed to be sent.

I totally agree with u!! I feel so sorry for these boys, especially the seniors. That board is absolutely heartless!!

As someone who was there, I believe this is well deserved for both teams. As the fight developed, I honestly couldn't believe what I was seeing.
I agree the coaches should be punished much more. If you weren't there, then you really have no idea what the kids did.

But he does have control over his program. He encourages this type of attitude.

and to respect the game
This he does not have! He should be suspended for the season.

This is right on target. The baseball program at Zachary has cultivated this kind of intimidating, in-your-face approach, and this has been done with the support of the coach and others in the baseball community. I was just a matter of time before something of this magnitude happened, and it is just fortunate that no one got hurt. I agree that the coach deserved more than a one-game suspension.

So TCHS and its coach have no fault at all in this? Not to mention parents who were choking ZHS players?
A lot of people are at fault here, but attempting to paint only ZHS and Jesse Cassard in a bad light while conveniently glossing over TCHS initiating the physical altercation seems a bit disingenuous and probably self-serving. Sticks and stones...

I've got no need to "self-serve" in this topic. I am not saying that TCHS is not at fault also. I believe all mentioned received punishment.
I'm only expressing my opinion on the attitudes and actions I have witnessed in association with the team I mentioned. And what I have seen is much the same as what was described within the incident article.

As someone that was there, words are words. The real altercation was when the Tuerling's player started fighting with Zachary players because he was out and didn't want to get off the field.
If umpires would have had control of the situation the dugouts wouldn't have emptied and the parents would not have had to run on the field to stop a fight that obviously the umps and coaches couldnt stop.

This all happened in the first inning. Umpire jurisdiction does not begin until the play begins. Are you saying the situation went from fine to out of control that quickly?

Zachary's coach encourages thuggery and laughs when his players taunt. His teams are historic for this, but it is the bench players and the lower-tier starters, not the stars...some class kids have come through Zachary. Often it goes on right next to him on the bench and he just laughs. This might straighten him up.

IMO this should be taken up with LHSAA if this many random people on a message board think it is a problem.
It seems like in the original thread there were 10 or 12 people saying the same thing.

I've seen it in person since my kid plays in the district with Zachary.....the punishment should have been MUCH harsher for the coaches and not towards the players as much.
ZHS has a great team this year and it sux for the kids......but it was a ticking timebomb and it finally went off.

West Monroe High School and Pineville were there for a hearing as they had a fight this past week as well. According to the WM coach the reason those teams got the harsh penalties was b/c the fans came on the field and this is an automatic post season ban per LHSAA. WM and Pineville just got fined and players suspended. LINK
