The women have an incredible weak year for nominees, I really don't even care to think about who's most deserving. Maybe write-in the hot asian chick from Ex Machina. Hell, I thought both those chicks from that movie had a better performance than most of the female noms.

Two nominations for Ex Maxhina. The academy is a frickin joke. Alicia Vikander doesn't get nominated despite giving the best performance of 2015, but Jennifer Lawrence gets nominated for another mediocre performance in another mediocre David O Russell fluff flick. Garland should've gotten a director nod as well. Should win best screenplay though.
I disagree with most of that. Ex Machina is a great movie, yes. Probably my favorite of the year. But Vikander was nominated for the better of her two performances IMO. I agree that Jennifer Lawrence's performance was nothing special - at all. I think all the Best Director nominees are worthy. And I doubt Ex Machina wins best screenplay - as good as it was, Inside Out and Spotlight (my personal pick) would both be worthy winners as well.

I thought the Revenant, outside of Leo was good, not great.
Lots of other movies named in best picture I thought were better: The Martian, Mad Max, The Big Short, and Spotlight were all better IMO. Haven't seen Bridge of Spies yet.

Leo pulled off his incredible role in actual freezing weather, water, etc. That's ridiculously hard to do. Most of these actors now never leave a stage.
Being cold does not a good acting performance make. Not by default, at least.
His acting in The Revenant was decent enough, but nothing special IMO. As I've said, though, it's a weak Best Actor field IMO, so it won't take anything special to win.

This is ridiculous and I was more hyped about Ex Machina than just about anybody on here. She should've been nominated over Jennifer Lawrence, but nobody's performance even comes close to Brie Larson.
Jacob Tremblay, Benicio Del Toro Steve Carell are other notable snubs. Despite the hate he gets, Aaron Sorkin should've been nominated for Steve Jobs. Screenplay was magnificent. I'd argue Inside Out 100% deserved a Best Picture nomination, too.

I was just saying this the other day. Field is sort of a train wreck. I'd give it to Fassbender if I had a vote. Although, Jacob Tremblay SHOULD have been nominated and won. Best performance I've ever seen from a kid.

I'd really like to know what the Academy has against Sicario. It is getting absolutely snubbed. I haven't seen all of the nominees but Sicario is a great movie and director Denis Villeneuve (Sicario-Prisoners-Incendies-Enemy) is the best director in the world right now, IMO. He deserves a nomination for best director here.

Anybody else really hoping George Miller wins?
ETA: Would love to see Roger Deakins finally win. Love Leo fans talking about injustice when Deakins has been nominated 12 times with no wins.

I didn't think that Sicario was all that great. Seems like it really hit well with some of the viewers, but for most it's just a really good movie.

I walked out of Mad Max in a daze. Lots of great movies this year, but Mad Max was special.

I haven't seen many movies this year (stupid kids), but this does seem like a weak field. I mean, very few of these films are ones that I'm all that geeked up to see (except Spotlight and the Revenant). I'll work through the list as they get released on DVD or Netflix.
But, really, could the field be any whiter? In a wide open year, without a dominant frontrunner, and they cram the acting slates full of white people for the 2nd consecutive year, which was the first time since 1997 I think. Benico del Toro couldn't get a nod? Or Idris Elba? Well, thank goodness Will Smith didn't, because Concussion looks just awful. Just throwing it out there. Besides, they managed to nominate the only white people involved in Straight Outta Compton, which is pretty impressive when you think about it.
This should be a great year for the technical awards, as Star Wars and Mad Max will be locked in a death struggle for all of those awards. Could be the more interesting fight this year.
