The acting was great, but I didn't feel the chemistry between Cooper and GaGa.

Weird. I felt like that was one of the strongest parts of the movie. To each his own though.

This movie is sticking with me in the few days since I've seen it. I think we may try to go see it one more time before it leaves theaters.

Same here.

One thing I noticed. I was happy to see that “Ally” had a poster of Carole King’s Tapestry in her room. Listening to the soundtrack for about the tenth time, I noticed that the song “Look What I Found” seems to be pretty heavily influenced by King’s music.

Saw it Sunday and have been thinking about it a good bit ever since. I thought it was fantastic. Listened to the soundtrack on my run last night, which is amazing. Gaga is extremely talented. I knew she could sing, but she blew me away in this one.

I know I’m in the minority, but I didn’t care for it that much. I get why people liked it. Cinematography is fantastic and the music is good. Gaga is an amazing singer and did a good job acting. The scenes with Cooper and Gaga work and Sam Elliot turns in a good performance too.

The story itself is pretty predictable and a lot of it seems forced. I want to like Coopers’ acting, but just can’t. I keep seeing him trying to act like Chris Kristofferson and it didn’t work for me. (And I’m a Bradley Cooper fan) I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it either.

I think my expectations were too high going in.

Possible Spoiler

I hated how he ended the movie. If he really loved her, he’d clean up his act and get his shite together for her. That’s what Johnny Cash did in Wall the Line which is a somewhat similar story.

You do know this is the 4th time this movie has been made and everyone of them ends this way?

I know it’s the 3rd remake. I haven’t seen the others, but I’m aware of them.

Spoiler
Do they commit suicide in all of them or die of other causes? Him in a wreck on his way to the tour or something would have been a much better ending.

Spoiler......

I haven't seen them but I'm pretty sure they are all suicide, not all the same way though.

I was hoping for a much different ending - I mean you knew what was about to happen

Had hoped Sam was coming to the rescue and everyone would live happily ever after

Welp, that settles it. Since he didn't do what Johhny Cash did that means the ending wasn't any good.

I guess Chester, the Linkin Park lead singer and a more recent example, didn't get the memo to just do what Johnny Cash did and get your shite together. I guess he didn't really love his wife and 6 children. Same applies to all other celebs or people who commited suicide

I get it, the more highly acclaimed and talked about movies are gonna receive more attention and therefore will receive more detailed criticism, but the shite some people come up with is hilarious

A star is born ends the same way each time... That's kind of the whole point.

He goes down, she goes on... Thats it.

The 76 version I believe was the only one where it was even slightly ambiguous as to how he died. (he obviously killed himself in the car, but I guess there's an out for those he don't want to believe it)

You know going in what the ending is going to be...plus anyone who couldn't see the ending coming for about the last 30 minutes even having never seen the previous ones, is blind.

It's a great movie. It took the best of the previous versions and upped it.

Sometimes people with addiction can get their life together, and sometimes they can't. It's not an easy thing to do. Just because he did what he did does not mean he doesn't love her. This story just happened to end differently. It's a a terribly sad story that unfortunately happens all the time.

It was a sad ending yet I felt nothing and I'm not some macho guy either. I've cried at movies before, but with this one, I was just glad it was over.

The poster who commented on Cooper's acting made a good point. It felt like he was imitating Sam Elliott the whole time.

I don't know what it was. I wanted to like this movie. I was looking forward to seeing it, but I just didn't like it. You couldn't pay me to sit through it again.

He did say he copied his voice, and it’s his older brother who he looked up to

Spoilers

in both the 37 and 54 version, he walks into the ocean and drowns himself. I know James Mason does.

Kristofferson, like I said before, kills himself in a high speed Ferrari. It's telegraphed throughout the movie, too. He says early on it's too fast for someone as wreckless as him. That's why I thought Cooper would meet his end on the motorcycle.

The deaths also all come right after his career has truly ended. In both later versions, the tour manager/record guy says the Maine character is too volatile and damaging to her career to go on tour with her, which she wants. Can't star in any more movies in the early versions.

The movies also all have huge award show meltdowns for the whole industry to see. (Oscars in first two, Grammys in last two)

He final chapter is always the same. That's kind of the point.

I feel like people who don’t like the movie simply don’t understand a lot of the context

For one, some don’t like Ally became a bland pop star... this was done on purpose and we aren’t supposed to like it, just like Jackson doesn’t

Some don’t like how he killed himself... Well life is shitty and not everything ends in a fairytale

She didn’t become a star when Jackson found her.,. A Star is Born when Jackson sacrifices himself so she could go on and be successful and she realizes that she needs to tell people what she has to say ( not some music exec) and she launches into stardom with the last performance

This.. the last shot of the movie is her looking directly into the camera, the only time in the movie she does so...That is the moment a star is born

Watched the original last night. I get why the ending was how it was now. But I still would have liked it better with a car crash or something like that.

I get why people like it. It’s a good movie in many respects, I just didn’t love it.
