Here is a reverse answer. This actor surprised the hell out of me when I found out he was American:

I had watched Buffy for a few seasons with him and his English accent was so good it literally shocked me.

Both the actors who play Jamie and Tyrion Lanister in GOT are Americans who speak in respectable British accents.

Christian Bale, but I think he's welsh? Could be wrong, either way I was shocked when I learned he wasn't American.

Charlie Hunnam Also completely forgot that Keifer Sutherland is a native Brit.

I was going to post that about Kiefer.

Also knew about Charlie Hunnam because of Green Street Hooligans

The entire cast of Caddyshack II. I kid.

Laurie would be the answer except I remembered him from his tiny bit in an episode of The Young Ones. Emma Thompson was in the same episode.

Not sure I've been flabbergasted by anyone but mainly because I've probably seen most Brits on a BBC show or British movie before they hit it big and came over here.

Dammit I defended that Cavill Limey without checking passport or imdb. Martin got me too, but only had 20yrs to figure that one out.

Brits owe us an American 007 after this thread.

I'll see you those three and raise you Sofia Vergara. Her fake Colombian accent is horrific!

...is so not British.

I'm sure it's been said already, but I was pretty surprised when I found out Andrew Lincoln of TWD is British.

Neither Jersey nor Virginia are anywhere near Great Britain.

The butler is from The Caribbean.

Yeah, Damian Lewis. First saw him in Life and then BoB. Couldn't believe he was when I saw him on Conan a while back.
