He could have had the rifle with him when they went to hunt the serial killer. I would.

I think this could easily have been two 10 episode seasons with Angela finding out that Jim was Dexter as the 1st season cliffhanger.
No doubt. Can’t believe Showtime would spend the money to bring back the show and not have the foresight to get another season. Unless the actor only agreed to one? Or since it’s called New Blood, will it come back with Harrison as the main character?

But that changed once Logan got killed. Which was a bad storyline. Don’t see the point of that.

Good point.
This ending is just so unsatisfying on so many levels. Angel never got to have his vengeance for the murder of his wife by seeing it through to see Dexter get the death penalty as the Bay Harbor Butcher.
Harrison gets no peace in a town that loved him and is now a fugitive for murder driving the truck of the man he slayed. Angela is now going to have to cover for the murder of Dexter, uhh somehow, to the FBI. There is simply no way she is the chief of police after all this.
She also can never tell her daughter what really happened with Harrison which will tear that relationship apart. Dexter gets the easy way out instead of having to go face to face with his demons while waiting on death row.
And then finally, many years later when it’s finally his time to get the lethal injection, we could have seen Harrison grown up, a good man, now the coach of the wrestling team in Iron Lake.
Right before Dexter gets the lethal injection, Angel could have placed pictures of Dokes and Maria on the viewing window as a poetic touch as Dexter would do the same before finally offing his victims.
Instead, Harrison ruins his life and future. He’s driving the truck of a dead man. Does he even have a license? Angela will have to lie to save Harrison which takes her altruistic character and torches it. Her daughter will never forgive her and the town of Iron Lake will never trust her.
All they had to do was have Harrison hold up Dexter until Angel got there. Hell, they could have had Dexter make a run for it but Harrison could have shot Dexter in the leg, further showing how Dexter’s dark passenger was not in Harrison as Harrison spared his life. Angela arrests Dexter and we got a montage of Dexter and Bautista, Dexter’s trial, and Dexter growing old on Death row while Dexter delivers a powerful monologue summarizing his life.
frick man. The more I think about this ending, the more pissed I am that it wasn’t handled better as the season was pretty good for the most part.

No matter how it ended, not everyone was going to be pleased.
As for Angela letting Harrison go, she's going to have a LOT of explaining to do when they start investigating the crime scene where Dexter is killed.
Fresh tire tracks and all the footprints in the snow are going to shout coverup to someone even as inept as Barney Fife.

Exactly my point. So she will surely lose her job at best or go to jail at worst. She will lose her daughter as well. They will definitely catch Harrison driving the dead Dexter’s truck. So he loses his new life/girlfriend/freedom. Basically happiness. Oh and now he’s a murderer, so Harrison goes to jail for the murder of his father. Angel never gets the closure he needs on Dexter/Maria. Why even have him in the show at all? All could have been summed up without the bay harbor storyline with the ending they chose. It’s kind of like the first episode with that rich fella who lent the helicopter or the gay owners of the gun shop, none of those characters existed after the first episode.
Did they do this to not have capital punishment be featured in Dexter’s demise? Do they really think rebooting Dexter with Harrison will work? Ugh, such a bullshite ending to a good season. We could have had a neat wrap up to the whole show with a trial montage and eventual death. Instead we got a redux of Dexter driving a boat into a hurricane. frick man. Why can’t these show runners write endings for their shows?

Let me guess, you also wish Tony Soprano and Walter White would have been convicted at trial and rotted in prison.
This is fiction, art, story telling. The grand finale is supposed make a statement, be a symbol of transformation.
If you want a boring realistic ending go watch The Shield. Or Dexter season 8

I thought they nailed the reboot. It wasn't as good as Dexter season 4 but it was as good as most of the other first 6 seasons.
And it gave the series the conclusion it deserved, with a plot that wouldn't have been possible without the 10 year gap. Well worth the wait.
As others have mentioned it would have been nice for them to spread it over 2 seasons just to get more time with the characters and tie up some loose ends.

I REALLY wanted Dexter/Angel meeting face to face. Wish they would have gone a couple more episodes and found a way to incorporate that.

Totally agree. This is my only real complaint about the season.

I have to admit, I didn’t think he was going to die in this episode. I thought for sure Showtime would want to get another season out of it since it did so well.
I figured he would find a way to pin it all on Kurt. So when he killed Logan the reality set in, and man I was bummed. Logan didn’t deserve to die at all and that changed the way we see Dexter. I get the point that Harrison needed that to realize he wasn’t like Dexter at all, but I still wish there would have been another way to get there.
I actually think Angel facing him and breaking him in an interview would have been awesome, appealing to his humanity as a friend for the death of the woman he loved and that always loved Dexter as well.
The combination of Angel talking to Dexter and probably also to Harrison who could then also talk sense to Dexter would have been awesome imo.
That said I was fine with him dying but I do think having Harrison do it defeats the purpose of “freeing” him. The trauma of having murdered his father will likely frick him up far worse than seeing his mom killed when he was a baby imo.
And then top it all off by turning him into a fugitive on the run?? Which doesn’t even really make sense because Angela is apparently taking the rap anyway??
I guess she just told him that so he’d leave and get away from her daughter and he won’t actually be wanted for anything, but still just kind of a messier ending than it needed to be had they cut out some of the fat early in the season and spent more time on these last couple of chapters.
I still really enjoyed the season and I’m happy we got another conclusion. I’m not sure I want to see another season with Harrison as the lead. I think he was good as a player in Dexter’s story, but really don’t think I’d enjoy a series with him as the lead.
Even if Michael C Hall was back as his Harry/Deb, I think Hall was always the draw and it wouldn’t work with him as a complimentary piece.
I guess we’ll see, but overall this was a great ending to a 15 year look at this character.

Dexter endings just suck imo; thought ep10 was trash

Yeah. overall, I thought the "New Blood" season was not very good.
Also, I have 0 desire to watch a show with Harrison as the central character.

It was rushed. Should have been 12 episodes.

Yeah, the GoT'ed this season. I didnt mind the ending but it really felt like "oh shite its the tenth episode, how are we gonna wrap this up?"

Just binge watched this yesterday and today. That ending was ridiculous. I do not believe Dexter would have killed that police officer.

If they made another season of New Blood I'd probably watch it, but it would be challenging for them to make something great with Dexter being dead. IMO.
