Oddly, one of the things I miss the most is the old opening credits. In New Blood, they play the same original ending credits song at the end, but nothing in the beginning. The old opening credits music/montage was so damn catchy!

This new series just doesn't have the vibe the first one had and I find myself not really caring if I see the episode when it first airs, usually catching it when I don't see anything else I want to watch.
But that hasn't that been the purpose of this season. The whole premise is Dexter trying to combat his urge and his "dark passenger." This season is about him trying to resist who he was in the original series and I find it intriguing. We're not supposed to have a weekly kill. So far all we see in this town has been the death of one a-hole who killed a bunch of people in a drunken/high rage on a boat and his serial killer dad.
The only other person that has been attacked so far was set-up by Dexter's son who is dealing with his own trauma.
You're right. It's not like he's in a major city where serious criminals around every corner...and this season hasn't been about that so far.
I'm not sure where else they could even possibly go besides this direction. Do you want it to just be a replay of the old stuff and the old hits?

Chloe' (the green-haired girl) has/had some nice natural hangers. Shame she didn't stick around.

The preview for next week's episode seemed to have a clip of Chief Bishop in the mines, so maybe Caldwell really is storing all his dead bodies there.

Last night's episode was wild. Angel Batista showing up! Harrision giving away Dexter's fake identity story, and the serial killers breakdown.
Dexter is in it deep now, can't wait to see what lie he comes up with to cover his backstory. This season is picking up quick.
Also the song during the end credits is sung by Michael C Hall. Apparently he is in a rock band irl lol.

He drugs him, goes through all that trouble to put up his plastic all over the kill room so he can contain the crime scene as much as possible----then hears something, goes to the window, pushing plastic sheeting out of the way and sees the cop sitting in his vehicle outside.
He then gets pissed, OD's the guy on his own drugs, cleans up his kill room, dresses the guy and props him at his computer to make it look like an overdose.
All this before the SWAT team makes entrance.
And yes, Harrison has turned out to be a real PITA for Dexter.

I get what you're saying, and the timeline doesn't really make a ton of sense, but who's to say Logan wasn't waiting a while for the swat team to show up?
It looked like he was just in his personal vehicle when Dexter saw him, and then he rolls in with a whole swat crew. I'm sure that took time for them to show up.
