So?

So the character isn't black. Pretty simple.

ETA: They race swapped this character because he was supposed to be the feature villain of the entire next phase of the MCU.

You're missing the point of the argument, but I don't think you're looking for the point, just pulling a pretty simple bait and switch.

I disagree with you, but that is a topic for another thread.

They race swapped that character because he was supposed to be the feature of the entire next phase of the MCU. That character is actually an argument in opposition to what you're trying to say.

Regardless, that one character doesn't support your argument.

sure, guy
Your argument falls apart when you consider the Aladdin live action movie made over $1 billion.

Division was already rampant in 2019.

Because people weren't so soured on Disney and it's shitty remakes then. There was still hope from people looking to recapture the magic of their childhood by seeing the remakes of movies they loved as kids.

But again, this has nothing to do with the live-action one.

If no one knew anything about Aladdin and Disney released the original today, there would definitely be people crying "woke" because it was a purely middle eastern film.

Last I checked, he was still a bad guy who was black going up against a bunch of white people.

If Disney cast Carrot Top as MLK I would go watch that movie.

Damn this thread went off the rails… back on topic for a post.

I’m not surprised this bombed, not because I think it looks bad, but because I have no idea what it’s about because there’s been barely any marketing. And I have a 5 yr old and subscribe to Disney +, I am the target demographic.

Disney/Pixar used to promote their animated movies literally YEARS in advance, they would drop easter eggs in their other animated movies and start teasing their upcoming projects 2-3 years before it came out. This movie was barely marketed and I heard nothing about it until a few months ago.

I wonder if they spend less on theatre release marketing because they know they’ll make money via streaming purchases now?

They are bleeding money on streaming. It is not profitable for them.

Which is really a testament to how badly they've alienated what should have been their target market (families). A streaming service with the Disney vault backing it up should have been able to print money.

They know they’ll lose money whether they spend money or not telling people about it. They do focus groups and know. I’ve heard more about inside out 2 than wish and it’s not released until mid summer. The teaser got a ton of views. They better hope they stuck to good story telling for this and not DEI crap that is killing them.

I think Wish will probably turn around over the holidays and end up not being a complete bomb, but this initial box office reflects the reality that people just don't trust Disney anymore. They have proven that I should expect them to sneak their woke religion into literally everything. I need to hear from people I trust before I take my kids to any new Disney film.

Yes, they are becoming more divisive, but humanity in general is becoming more divisive too. If Aladdin was made today, this board would be complaining that Disney was promoting pro-Muslim rhetoric.

If Disney simply went back to writing good music, having decent animation, and making movies kids love without shoehorning any culture war stuff they’d start printing money tomorrow.

Parents don't trust Disney anymore. I don't want my kids exposed to any sort of agenda at their ages. Woke or otherwise. This is also why Super Mario Bros made 1.3 billion and every Disney movie that comes out is bombing.

The commercials didn't look that bad so I'm a little surprised Thanksgiving weekend wasn't better.

It seems possible that many years of persistent shite posting instead of producing good movies has finally done significant damage (to the formerly tremendous Disney brand value).

They have years of re-establishing their credentials before that happens
