I always thought "enders game" is where they got some of the ideas for "Starship troopers"

Starship Troopers is a book by Robert Heinlein which is much older than Ender's Game and probably influenced Ender's Game.

I've read both books and Card wins that one.

would say "The Stand", but since it would take Peter Jackson and $350 million to do it right, I'll go with "Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card. I read it and still can't believe it hasn't been tried.

"The Stand" was a TV mini series in the early 1990's. If I remember right it was pretty good too.

A Confederacy of Dunces

This.

And I have several others:

The Hyperion Cantos

Ilium and Olympos

The Moon is a Harsh Mistress (and of course a redo of Stranger in a Strange Land would be great)

When Gravity Fails (actually, the entire trilogy...)

When True Night Falls

Neuromancer (though they'd totally frick this up)

Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell

Perdido Street Station

The Scar

Iron Council

The Illuminatus! Trilogy (THIS would be an epic trip)

Kushiel's Dart

Fortress of Solitude

Motherless Brooklyn (I've heard that they're making one of this)

And there are many more that I could think of, given the time and a chance to wander around my bookshelves...

Catcher and The Giver could be pretty interesting movies. I'm surprised that Catcher hasnt been made yet

I'm not surprised at all. Salinger is a recluse, and only came out of hiding when someone tried to use Holden Caulfield in a novel: LINK

He's a strange person, and there is no way that we will see Catcher as a movie while he still lives.

BTW, Connery's character in "Finding Forrester" is clearly based on Salinger.

Any of the "Jack Reacher" books by Lee Child ("Killing Floor", "Die Trying", etc)

Kingwood Tiger, I aree w/ your comments re: the Stephen Hunter books. I was disappointed w/ the changes made from "Point of Impact" to "The Shooter."

They have been trying for over 20 years to make Dunces into a movie. I have no idea why it falls apart over and over and over.

I think Belushi was up for the toll, then goodman, then goodman's pal, then will ferrell.

This would have to be a small indie film as all of the eccentric characters might not work for the mainstream audience.

That's pretty funny. As soon as I read the subject to the thread, I thought of Ender's Game.

I think the Powers that be, think a space movie with kids that is ultra violent will not attract enough people.

I bet they tried to get Card to tone down the violence and he said NO!

Without the violence, it is space camp with a twist.

And this movie would probably be destroyed by the trailer revealing the twist.
