How does that change Michaels trajectory?
He's not constantly paranoid and bitter...Because he would be having great sex over that god-awful of a woman, Diane Keaton.

His relationship with Connie also fell apart. In the 2nd movie she hated him and was lashing out. In the 3rd it came back together, but I only kind of consider that part of the story. More like fan fiction haphazardly thrown in on the end. To me it ends after part 2, with Michael all alone having pushed everyone away. I hadn't considered Tom, but even with Tom Michael had pushed him away and questioned his loyalty. The whole "you can pack up with your kids, wife, and mistress" scene was pretty in Tom's face. Sonny being dead just means he wasn't part of the final arc of self destruction.

Nope.

That's why I love the final scene e the family. Shows the total irony. Vito did it all for his family, Michael ruined his family for the business

Michael brings her back to America and lives his father's life. Has children who will inherit the family business unlike Kay's children who wanted nothing to do with it (because of her).
However, it's likely Michael would not have been as ruthless had she not been killed. Again, he'd have likely run the business like Vito.
But, his ruthlessness made G2 arguably a top 10 film of all time. His character is one of the most interesting in movie history, in no small part because of Pacino's perfect portrayal from start to finish.

The death of Apollonia completed the turn. Michael went from war hero and an attempt at a reputable life to a man set on dominating the underworld landscape.
Had Apollonia not died, perhaps Michael stays in Sicily and lives a quiet life. Maybe he returns to the US with a different outlook. Her death ended any chance of that.

I wish Fabrizio's death made it into the final cut.

I think he brings her to America and she keeps him a little more grounded.
I mean, let's be honest, what he did to Kay, you don't do to someone you live. Apollonia was the true love of his life. If Kay was, he wouldn't have married her knowing he was going back.

I think if Apollonia doesn't die, he still ends up taking over the family, but he will die a lot sooner. Either it takes him too long to figure out it was Barzini all along and he ends up dead or he ends up dead in the hit in Tahoe. He would have been just as smart a Don, but he wouldn't have had the ruthless killer inside him that was let out with Apollonia's death. I think if he does survive, then he let's Fredo off the hook.

I don't know. I think killing the Turk and Cop were the turn. No going back at that point.

I liked the book ending for Kay much better. She becomes a good Catholic girl who prays for her husbands soul.

No, Sonny’s death ended any chance of that.

So at that point, his father was seriously wounded, Sonny was dead and it was just Fredo the idiot and Tom the non-Sicilian/non-wartime consigliere running things with Clemenza hanging around being fat and Sal being shady. Barzini was slowly destroying his family.
I tend to think Michael would have gone back regardless to run things.

Which one?
TIL two different Fabrizio killings were filmed, one by car bomb and one by Michael with a shotgun, the latter of which has never been released apparently only photos.

That's what most Italian women of that day would do. Smokeshow, to ride or die thickness with ungodly cooking abilities. Give me that all day, and twice on Sunday.
