Harry Potter HBO series looks to be headed in the normal direction...

Don't usually watch Asmon, but this popped in my feed because of Potter. This doesn't look good for the series.
How do you get someone to write the show that couldn't even be bothered to read the books, lol.

how can someone be a writer for a living and never have read the harry potter books?
please tell me it's a technicality and they listened to the audiobooks or something rather than reading them.
Half-Blood prince book >>>> the movie.

You can be hired onto a project first and then read the source material second. However, that's not what disturbs me. What disturbs me are his comments on writing a direct adaptation. While he implies that such a thing would be the most satisfying option for the fans, it would not be the "most interesting" option for him. He doesn't want to do that. Hopefully Rowling will reel him in.

frick him, hire someone else
hell hire a fan that loves the books and then give them a good producer

He probably didn't bother reading all of the books because he felt he could do better (which the clip shows him saying on his podcast).
Like yeah dude, you could totally write better than this beloved series of novels that sold millions of copies. You apparently just haven't had the time I guess.
Dude is example A1 of why Hollywood sucks now. All these people think they somehow know better than the audience or creators.

They need the Harry Potter equivalent of Jon Favreau.

I have heard several show runners in the past say that they want to have several people on the writing team that have not read the source material to give a different perspective and to not be burdened with what they think they have to do, while the rest of the writing team is familiar with the material.
I think its weird.

If you’re gonna give every book a. full season,
harry should be chasing more tail.
Least realistic part of the books.
I know he’s got other stuff going on, but puberty trumps all.
but at the end of the day, make a show for fans.
Make the show fans want. I dont really want to explore this world outside HP and his adventures. it’s far reaching implications are horrifying in full context.

dude was just a famous, rich, star athlete who regularly saved wizard society.
Casting a short actor was a brilliant move because it does negate all of that.

They are trying to go for their HP Tony Gilroy. Gilroy is not a fan of Star Wars and said he used Wookiepedia to help write Rogue One and Andor and he gave us the best Star Wars after George.
This guy said he read the books to his daughter until she could read them herself. So he at least has the material for the first couple seasons and JK as producer will still have some control.

obviously it was a decision Rowling made because she thought it would make the story more captivating to not have Harry be a cocksmith.
Also I'm pretty sure noone is under the illusion that Rowling is an incredible writer. it's pretty much accepted that she caught lightning in a bottle with the Harry Potter books.

This is one of those things that you can clearly tell the series was written by a woman. Virtually every teenage boy in that situation would be knee deep

lol and that she wrote a YA novel
the real insane implication is that there is wizard medicine and they don’t share it with muggles.

it's best not to overanalyze these things. the books/movies were still very enjoyable
i havent heard a lot about this TV series but I hope it's good.
Hogwarts Legacy got me back into the world and they did an incredible job building Hogwarts and Hogsmeade even if the games main storyline was kinda lackluster

Main Characters
Nerds
Leftover Kids and
Wizard Nazi kids

This sent me into a little bit of a rabbit hole on Andor. I just learned that the guy that directed the three episodes in the prison arc (some of my favorite episodes of any tv show I've seen recently) also directed the USS Callister episode of Black Mirror.

The core issue with the crap Hollywood is putting out, especially when it comes to already-established IPs. Even though none of them have ever written novels (much less a series of novels) which garners the love, acclaim and money of these IPs, they somehow think they can improve those IPs by changing them. Whether it's making The Force into some sort of teleportation device or changing the race/sex of a character or focus of the story (looking at you WoT) in order to fight whatever-ism, their ideas end up sinking the IP and pissing off the very people they were absolutely sure they would win over.
And it happens every single time. Every. Single. Time.
