A new series on HBO Max (RT score 98%) about 2 hockey players that are bitter rivals in the sport but secret lovers off the ice. Seattle Times says one of best series of 2025. Another entry in the homosexual ice hockey drama genre.

I just finished this show and I have to say... most on here will dislike it immediately just for its content. But this is honestly one of the most well-acted, well-directed, well-written, beautifully shot shows I have ever seen. Even minor details like the use of soundtrack are incredible.
Yes it is... gay... Especially the early episodes... But its never preachy. The pacing is incredible from start to finish. The first four episodes are great on their own... but the last two... episodes 5 and 6, are two of the best episodes of television I've ever watched. Currently both sitting at 9.9 on IMDB with the Six Feet Under Finale, and just under Breaking Bad: Ozymandias.
No spoilers here: But there's a 4 minute monologue in Episode 5... set to Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata... delivered entirely in Russian... that is one of the finest pieces of acting I can remember.
I really do hope some on this board give this show a chance. It is a masterpiece.

I honestly have heard great things about this show ~ not just from the gay community.

Plan on watching it when I resubscribe to HBO this month.

My brother-in-law (yes, he’s gay) convinced me to give this series a watch. He read the first two books in the series and didn’t really like them because he said they were pretty smutty, yet he was surprised at how good the series was. I knew nothing about the books prior to watching the show. I thought it was very well done and fantastically acted all the way around. There is a good bit of sex in the first four episodes, but it tapers off considerably in the final two, in favor of some serious character development. The final episode is all about love and acceptance, not just from others, but from within oneself. If you have an issue with gay people, then definitely don’t watch, but if you’re open to a non-traditional love story, give it a chance. It’s not preachy or woke in how it deals with the subject matter.

A buddy of mine who works in Hollywood who knows people at Warner Brothers told me that the players are high key implied to be Crosby and Ovechkin

Well, yeah, from a hockey rivalry standpoint that makes sense. But the gay part of the show is some Hollywood writer faggy fan fiction fantasy.

The show is based on a book by a Canadian woman.

That's not a surprise, this is about hockey. It's still gay fantasy fiction, though, isn't it?

I suppose you can call anything that hasn’t happened (at least publicly) “fan fiction.”

Is it not a fictional gay fantasy novel written by a hockey fan?

Yes. I’m not arguing with you about that. I only replied to you to clarify this wasn’t born from some gay Hollywood producer/writer.
This was based on a series of books written by a Canadian woman, developed for a Canadian streaming service, and later picked up by HBO. Similar to how many shows/movies are developed which could also be labeled as “fan fiction” or “fantasy.”

Has one of the guys in the show been in a long term relationship with a girl and the other married to a girl with kids?
