I thought it was funny but Merchant is at his best when hes with karl pilkington and ricky gervais. The 3 of them together are exponentially greater than the parts… i still listen to the old XFM radio shows if i want to good laugh.. i really wish they would all get back together.

The series was probably our favorite find during lockdowns. Not sure which cancellation pissed me off more, this or Arrested Development, but the movie did a much better job wrapping it all up vs a 10-year too late revival season

The entire one season of Hello Ladies plus the movie that ended it are so underrated. It is the some of the most uncomfortable comedy I have ever seen. Greatness. And it totally nails the flakiness & arrogance of the people of Los Angeles.

It was 90% comedy, but they did a good job with the rare occasions where they leaned towards the drama/inspirational. The scene where the chunky dude's wife tells him that she wants a divorce (they'd been separated) and his daughter playfully runs up to him right after was really well done/brutal.

Great show and movie. If you watched it on HBOMax, I'm pretty sure that "Extras" (another Gervais/Merchant show) is still on there, which is definitely worth a watch. Last I checked, "Life's Too Short" is MIA.

If nobody else gets the reference, I did.

I rewatched the season and movie recently - spectacular. He is the unsung hero - the Charlie Munger - of the Gervais/Merchant team.

The episode where he wants to date the super model and ends up at a house party where folks get in the hot tub was one of the most uncomfortable and hilarious things I’ve ever seen

The show is even better. But they did a solid job with the movie.

It’s criminal that the show lasted as short of a time as it did. It’s great. It’s been a while since I’ve watched it. May need to try to squeeze it in here and there and get a rewatch in. I don’t remember much about it specifically, but remember loving it.
