the first time i saw the exorcist was at 10 yrs in a drive-in theater.

i don't think any movie has ever scared me that much.

watching it as an adult in the day time doesn't have quite the same feel.

Cam is an underrated gem on Netflix about a sex cam girl who starts to be replaced by a doppleganger.

Creep and Creep 2 are both excellent.

I don’t see The Omen (1976) mentioned very often. Good watch.

Early Kathryn Bigelow Near Dark is great as is Frailty staring and directed by Bill Paxton. My favorite goofy stylistic horror is The Lair Of The White Worm.

The Wailing is a really good Korean flick if we're going into foreign films.

I think a lot of people passed on The Exorcist 3 because the second one was so bad (or so I heard--I didn't bother seeing it).

The third movie is actually based on the second book, and it's written and directed by the author. It probably won't scare you, but it's wild and I recommend it.

Most of my favorite horror movies are the Asian ones, such as A Tale of Two Sisters and Cure.

Dario Argento's films are fun. I recently watched Inferno for the first time. It has a great theme song that plays during a key scene, too.

Thanks for the rec. It was fine movie but not what I hoped it would be. I just finished it. Just curious, what made you want to run to church?

....I want something extremely creepy. Something disturbing. Something even beyond.

A slasher film is welcome but I’ve seen all the old classics. Can anything stand up to them or surpass them?

I’ve seen many other classics, and most are great. Exorcist is only one I don’t want to watch again. Poltergeist 1and 2 still give me goosebumps to think about. I watched them as a young kid (too young) and they’ve stuck with me ever since. So maybe I’m just damaged.

I’ve seen first 3-4 Saw movies... ehhh.
All the Rob Zombie movies.... I’m not that disturbed. They mostly seem comical.

Hills Have Eyes movies sucked (IMO).

Cabin in the Woods was great movie but not classic horror. But I really liked it.

The Strangers was good. That’s kinda what I’m looking for. Something similar. The sequel was less good.

... I’m gonna try to find Don’t Breathe or The Descent next. Or Possession (if I can find it).

Edit: starting The Descent right now . Hoping for the best.

Haha, don’t hate me... it was ok. Best scene of movie for me was the final 1-2 minutes.

I don’t know. I think I’m ultimately looking for something really messed up or creepy/disturbing. Maybe something supernatural. I don’t know. I’ve never watched Paranormal Activity movies.

As I said earlier, I grew up watching Exorcist and Poltergeist and Pet Semetary as a kid, so I’m probably warped.

But I appreciate all the recommendations. Keep them coming. I gotta find Possession. I remember reading old threads about it — maybe from same poster each time hahaha.

I’m on vacation this week, so I plan to watch 1-2 movies per night this week.

For a measuring stick, last year I watched newest Halloween movie and I watched The Strangers for the first time (long overdue). They were both good. I also watched The Ritual ... ehhhh ok , not great.

Try Megan is Missing or The Poughkeepsie Tapes. Both are pretty fricked up, and relatively creepy in their own right (moreso in that there are crazy evil people out there that are capable of doing that kind of shite).

Also try House of the Devil. It's from like 2009, but is a throwback to horror movies from the 70s. It's not "scary" per se, but does a great job of building a completely intense atmosphere that makes it a lot creepier than it should be. It's really solid.

Watch Haunt, you can find it on Prime.

Also, the Terrifier on Netflix. Low budget and it misses on some things but has some legitimate creepy parts as well.

Watch Hereditary. It was even more disturbing the second time I watched it knowing the ending.
