I don't think they will take too much stock in how a prequel does vs a sequel to a cultural phenomenon (even with the shite ending) where they will most likely be able to do whatever they want with story/character.

Jon Snow was the only Arthurian good guy in that entire story, so I'm interested how much input George Martin will have on these spinoffs. As big a douche as he is, he understands how to mix and contrast characters in a story far better than most Hollywood writers. If Snow just becomes "bad privilege white man oppressing fantasy minority", I hope it dies before it hatches. But of the characters left in the aftermath of GOT, Jon is one of the characters who has a lot of potential for an interesting sequel.

Jon Snow turns into the Night King. Dany was brought to Valyria by Drogon where she is brought back to life by a priestess of Rhollor. Bran gets the hot girl with big tits from the play and Sansa dies of pneumonia.

That was well built up at least. Bran becoming King is some of the most absurd and dumbest endings I’ve seen.

Would be one of the most cheered decisions in media history and would bring in a gazillion new subs for HBO.
They could take a playbook from Dallas and make all of Season 8 a dream. They could even cast Patrick Duffy in a walk-on role...just for fun.
