And you are one of the problem posters. You are always looking into a political slant. There isn’t an ultra left liberal hiding behind every door.
Am I now? I don't even watch The Acolyte and haven't posted in that thread very much at all since the show started.
There doesn't need to be a liberal hiding behind every door. Leftist garbage is threaded throughout all media.

so i should avoid the episode thread for a show i'm watching if someone that admittedly doesn't watch/hasn't watched the show goes in the thread and makes it political?
How about - much like GoT with Book readers and Non-Book Readers, we have two threads for shows? Those interested in "Social Commentary," and those who just want to talk about the show?
I'm just spitballing here, but that's way better than banning talking, then we ask for penalties on people who cross the line.

You can discuss your feelings about race swapping Ariel without attacking posters or turning it into a discussion about Biden, Trump, etc.
What actually happens when these things are discussed is people who support this garbage call everyone racists. That's when the thread devolves.

A few people on the board made almost 40% of Page 1 Game of Thrones at the time, and we didn't need Chicken to change that practice. I remember doing the math to prove my point at the time.
GOT was the biggest show on the planet at that time and it was a very unique set of circumstances that led to there being multiple season threads. This is not the same at all.

Yes, they suck too. And we should limit engagement, ignore threads and let certain threads die. They only post because people respond.
They would continue to post w/or w/o anyone responding b/c there are enough of them to have a constant feedback loop w/each other. Meanwhile they are actively killing everyone else's engagement on MTV b/c of how exhausting it is to deal w/them.
Do you not realize how bad things have now gotten when Chicken is having to crack down on a subject due to a small amount of posters carpet bombing the board?

Come on. Do you honestly think they'd be able to contain themselves? Really?

SO can we talk about to Chicken about handling the specific people?

So it's ok to restrict a good portion of content about movies and tv, just to make sure we eliminate a small portion of bad content?
NO I don't think that's the right choice.

We request Chicken to ban people for not adhering to the point of the thread. It takes a ban or two to set them straight.

So I'm guessing we can't talk about the political inference of Battleship Potemkin? That we can't discuss how Russian politics infers Tarkovsky? Can't talk about the often blatant representations of MAGA in the Boys? Are all of those discussions worthwhile? Maybe, maybe not. But all you've done is reduce discussion, reduced the scope of what we can talk about, reduced our ability to talk about a film in the context of culture. Can we talk about philosophy? Can we talk about religion? Can we talk about ethics? Can we talk about morals?
I can't speak for Chicken, and I'm not going to lie, the new rule is surprising, but I personally don't see this being a some strictly forced rule. I can't see a thread about Battleship Potemkin getting switch over because it's not a thread that's going to turn into a left vs right dick measuring contest. Too often threads about TV and movies turn into absolutely nothing about the actual TV show or movie and just become Poli talk. Who wants that on the M/TV board. Not me. I feel like those are going to be the only threads being moved over and if you're only wanting to talk about politics then who cares if it's on the Poli board.

My suggestion - I go back to the original run of Game of Thrones. I've never watched the show, for what many of you probably view as lame reasons - mostly the sex and incest. But you do you. I don't like the content, don't like the discussion, don't like anything about it. You know what I did? Never clicked on an episode link. It's not hard.
Except not everybody is like you and you have guys that are completely opposite that only want to stir the pot. Did you go into GoT thread screaming about sex and incest? No.But you do have people that go into a Rings of Power thread yelling, screaming , and complaining about politics and why everyone should hate it about a show.... they never even watched. I wasn't a RoP fan because I love Tolkien and I think they screwed up the source, but even if I wanted to get on here and talk about the actual show, I couldn't, because the thread had nothing to do with the show, just a bunch of people arguing politics that ran off anybody wanting to talk about the actual show.
quote:
How about we do that now? How about we ask Chicken to reverse this decision, allow political discussion, and create a different culture around it?
If this is reversed I wouldn't care, I'd post on here regardless. But you can blame just a handful of posters for this decision happening. If it wasn't for fatkid, kige, sammy, jay are, OML (though he's a different poster since returning from a ban and doesn't really argue), and a few others that are in this thread, this never would have happened/or needed to happen. A much better option would have just cut ties with a handful of posters and ban

Then you're a moron who didn't read this thread.
They deleted a thread about a movie made by Matt Walsh. A literal film. It belongs on this board.

Then ignore the post and don't engage.
The point of this rule is it doesn’t belong here in the first place. There’s another board for that.

Like 2 people. But now you've hurt everyone because of a couple of people.
Hurt? How so? Go to the poli board.

If you think every social issues can only be discussed political, than you have zero critical thinking skills. Way too many threads devolve into the broad brush stroke of "woke" without any real discussion.
But “woke” isn’t political. But it’s what the OP is talking about. So he needs to be clear.
I’m actually trying to think of threads on here that are actually “political”

Honestly, this board will die if these things cannot be discussed here. If we can't discuss a film's content, there's no reason to discuss a film.
Nah.
It might actually being back some decent posters to the board who bounced over the non-stop political BS.

Political Talk Board. It’s not timeout. It’s not punishment. It’s where those discussions belong.

And there's a reason you get downvoted to death in every thread even by a board full of people that have the same political view as you. Because you suck as a poster and add absolutely nothing of value to any discussion on the M/TV board because all you know how to do is bitch about politics and call people morons.

Yes create a thread on poli talk about all the woke movies, deviation from the source material because of DEI, and the political leanings of the key grip and the best boy that clearly influenced the show.

Who decides if something is a political opinion? A moral one? A philosophical one? Etc.

Because you're going to talk about the movie Civil War without talking about the politics? Wag the Dog? Lincoln?
We can't talk about the message behind Chappy? Or Elysium? Or In Time? Or 12 Monkeys?
Posted on 7/26/24 at 2:16 pm to Hester Carries
It’s pretty clear, when a certain group of people get their asses handed to them and cry, we get OPs like this to protect them yet as we see in this thread they’re allowed to continue spewing their BS and these rules don’t apply to them. It’s typical

The poli board is simply NOT where discussions about political points/themes/driving philosophies of movies and tv shows belong. That’s fricking ludicrous.

Chicken does. It’s his site. You don’t like it? Go somewhere else. And this is coming from someone that respects the hell out of you as a movie tv poster, but the threads have been spammed to death by 7-8 guys that just ruin the board.

The politics of that time frame within the movie is fine. Bringing the politics of today into the discussion is the line.
