I could use some Craig Ferguson right now.

Kingpin was kind enough to put on the goodbye, I'll catch the rest of the show on the DVR...God bless this man

I thought it was excellent. Well done.

Supposedly he doesn't meet with the guests before the show either. He doesn't even talk to the writers in person.
An in-law used to work for CBS and was involved in the Letterman show. Most of the strange and being distant crap you hear about him is grossly exaggerated. He treats his staff very well. Knows their families, etc.

I'm surprised Kimmel wasn't on, and I didn't see Chris Elliott in the clips.
Love the older clips, but I was hoping to hear the Late Night song one more time.

I thought for sure Ray Romano would've been on.

Lol. Watching Conan replay. "Hit record and turn Dave on. Good bye."

One final note
My favorite guest of all time was Charles Grodin, his "I hate you Dave" deadpan schtick was great and he always delivered. You would never see an appearance like that on any other show and it set Dave apart from everyone else.
Seeing all the old clips reminded me how frenetic and wild the show could be, I miss that. The "I love everyone" routines that hosts do now are just too redundant for me and even though they can be incredibly creative, it is not an event like Dave's show
I haven't consistently watched Dave for years but I would be lying if I said I won't miss him

The fact that leno dominated letterman in ratings shows how dumb this country is. Dave was a far superior interviewer and the show was consistently edgier. But Leno was "safer."

quote:Yep, and it's why I don't really watch the late night shows anymore. Conan was the last one I watched regularly, and he was pretty good in the same oddball way Letterman was (the Year 2000, etc.), but it's become a little formulaic, though still good at times.

My woman loves Jimmy Fallon, and I find him extremely boring and not unlike an effusive labrador retriever at times (if that makes sense). She gets really pissed off with me.

The last great one (Letterman and Carson being the other two), but I´m not really fond of his show now.

It always hits you when something's Wikipedia page goes from present tense to past tense.

It was a great final show. Like many of you, I haven't watched Dave in years. When I would turn it on lately, it wasn't funny. He was a shell of his old self. But, it used to be great.
Where was Teri Garr? I didn't even see her mentioned in any of the clips. She was one of his best guests.
Dave represented the old Hollywood of the 70s-80s that is fading now. It had ties to the 50s-60s far more than actors today have ties to anything 5 minutes ago, so there was this continuum.
Sad.

Teri Garr was in the final clips.
No Natalie Merchant. I recall her and or 10,000 Maniacs on there. He made no bones about his love of her. Joking or not.
