If the two worlds share a common history, the fork in the road is sometime before 1977.

November 5, 1955 as the target date, explaining that it was the day he conceived the idea of the flux capacitor, the device which "makes time travel possible."

Marty McFly: That's right, Doc. November 12, 1955.
Doc: Unbelievable, that old Biff could have chosen that particular date. It could mean that that point in time inherently contains some sort of cosmic significance. Almost as if it were the temporal junction point for the entire space-time continuum. On the other hand, it could just be an amazing coincidence.
I think LOST is going to prove that it is no coincidence.

Forget Gary Coleman, how sweet would it be if this was all a backgammon game being played by Marty and Doc Brown?

If the split does occur in '77 around the time the bomb went off, then that means that Jacob could not have visited anybody after that time to affect their lives.
This makes me think of when Sawyer ran into Jacob as a kid. According to Lostpedia, he was 8 when Jacob gave him the pen. This could have happened sometime between '76 and '77.
Is this the earliest time that we know of that Jacob influenced one of the candidates?
Edit: per lostpedia, Sawyer was the first that Jacob came in contact with, and it was in '76, so the split has to be before that no? Unless Jacob still exists in the alt timeline.

Kate was pretty young, but probably not that young.

This thread is getting good.

The mouthbreather is talking about space aliens, and we all know what he meant.
I agree with you that there's no way we will see "aliens," but I think it's more due to the fact that it would just be bad storytelling so late in the game, rather than because it's so "crazy." This whole thing is pretty fricking bat-shite.

100% agree, and I've stated on this board before that I think the writers are taking an amalgamation of Greek, Roman, Egyptian, and Christian mythologies to create a basic framework for LOST.
I completely agee, and even remember Doc Jensen mentioning some Norse mythological allusion a season or 2 ago. Also, probably some Far Eastern thrown in there as well. I wonder if their motivation was just not to offend any certain cultures(or to offend ALL of them, so none of them would be offended), or just to keep us from being able to really figure it out. Likely both.

Does backgammon involve hand-eye coordination? Michael J. Fox might have some trouble.

I think you meant to say "Does backgammon require a steady hand."

I never used the word "aliens"
Your words:
quote:
the Egyptians did not have the technology/know-how to build the pyramids hypothesizing that there might have been extraterrestial influence
As I stated, I never used the words aliens. Your quote simply verifies it. Aliens does not equal extraterrestrial. Extraterrestrial is derived from Latin meaning outside earth. It could just as easily imply Greek or Roman Gods or God and Christ.

you are a bitter a-hole

Nope, but I will call out a fricking ruh-tard every time I see one. Here, at the office, at home or on the internet.
I suggest you work on your confrontation skills. If you confront co-workers in your office as you do here, I am surprised you are even employed.

When the frick are you going to get off this stupid Wallace bandwagon? Guess what, if they wanted it to refer to Desmond - THE frickING DIAL WOULD HAVE SAID HUME. Or, if it was Widmore - HIS LAST NAME WOULD BE WALLACE AND NOT WIDMORE. How difficult is it for you to grasp the basic concept that that whole scene was for Jack??
You might be right but since a Wallace had not been introduced in LOST, I feel it was normal for fans to conjecture about who it might be coming to the island.

"....oh shite, uh....Wallace is legenday Scottish hero from hundreds of years ago.....and....uhh......Desmond is Scottish......uhhh.......Holy shite!!! I figured it out"

You put this in quotes; are you quoting yourself? I haven't seen any other poster state something like this. As I have already shared with you once, I have never claimed to have any definite answers.
quote:
your theories pretty much suck, and the ones you re-post here are even worse
You have yet to find a theory that you didn't like
As do you. Just in case you are unaware, these forums are for information sharing. Like other fans here, I watch LOST and enjoy it. I have shared other ideas and documented the sources. I have expressed my own opinions. If you don't like it then tough shite.
At this point I feel our feud has become a distraction from the topic. I will no longer respond to any of your posts. Good day.

quote:Let me see if I understand you correctly. You're saying that, because Jacob touched people, like Sawyer, before 1977 then they should still end up on the island on the Oceanic flight?
per lostpedia, Sawyer was the first that Jacob came in contact with, and it was in '76, so the split has to be before that no? Unless Jacob still exists in the alt timeline.
I would throw out there as a possibility that if/when the two timelines converge, those people still do end up on the island, just not within that particular universe/split. Sort of how Dogen said, "Jacob told me I could save my son's life if I came to the island, only I would never be able to see him again."

Well that goes back to Christian being Shephard at #23.... and the reason why his childhood home was shown in the mirrors.

If we would have done a single thread like we were debating, we'd now be at 187 pgs or 3740 posts
On that pace, I think we will end up at 500pgs by the end of the season.

It would be cool if she was married to that other guy in the alt timeline and she is leaving Korea with her lover Jin.
I posted my theory a few pages back. I don't think Sun had the affair. Since she did not have the affair, she did not have the desire to learn english and run away with the other guy. Sun is the candidate.
