Damn, thats true... He was one of what the media called the Oceanic 6, but in reality it was only 5 of them...is that right?

Wrong.
They specifically said in the recap show that the 6 were:
Kate
Jack
Sayid
Sun
Hurley
Aaron

I thought he was the 7th, but looking it up, it appears you are right and he was indeed included.

but only because he told Richard in '54 that he was the leader and would be born in two years. Richard learned at the knife test that Locke wasn't special. It wasn't until he crashed on the island that this notion resurfaced due to the regained use of his legs. Assuming that Ben and the Others did as much dilligent research on Locke that they did on everyone, it's not a stretch to assume once they found out he was in a wheelchair the day before and now he's walking that he's "special"
They mistakenly assumed it was the island &/or Jacob that graced Locke, all the while (I think) it was all part of MIB's master plan
Its certainly because of his meeting with Locke is why Richard thought he was special. And really, Locke chose correctly on which item was his already, its just Richard thought he would go for the compass since he gave him the compass. But keep in mind, Jack told Richard not to give up on Locke, so that kept Richard from going against his instinct in Locke's specialness. Locke was never special, it was just a con by Locke and the MIB.

so im standing by my thought that because he didnt go back thats why their return was all messed up

but I'm not sure I agree with that. Otherwise, why would it randomly be soldiers? There would be no rhyme or reason to it.
As a storytelling device to let us know more about Desmond's past(his "real" past

I think I lean more toward that was what would have happened had there been no island (and all the shite that came with it) in Dez's life.
I disagree. I think it's clear that we are supposed to believe that he was in the British military at some point in the original "reality." However, I don't disagree that he may be conscious in more than 1 "reality," but we are delving into some Quantum physics theory that is a little over my head.

But there were surrogates on the 2nd flight for the originals. Johns body for Christians, etc...So, if one of the chicks(Ilana?) was pregnant on the Ajira flight, then that fetus would have taken the place of Aaron.

Producers already said the reason why they didnt all end up in the same time period after 316 was because they failed to re-create the flight properly.

When it first aired, I swore it was Kate that was pregnant. She and Jack "got caught in a net" the night before the flight.

Also, I am forgetting...where is Aaron in all this?
I also want to know where Claire went and why she left Aaron. I expected her to be at the Temple, but now I think the MIB manipulated her in some way.

I pretty sure that the Claire/Aaron storyline will play a big role this season.

She is with MIB (in the form of Christian) at the cabin.
I'm still trying to wrap my head around why she told Kate (in a dream) not to bring Aaron back to the island.

Don't remember what color the shoes were but he did tell Locke he had to move the island, which IMO was a part of MIB's plan.

Cabin
Here is the clip. Christian's shoes are dark. I don't know if I'm just noticing this because I set out looking for it, but is it just me, or does look the camera goes out of it's way to capture the shoes?
Also, notice Claire's facial expression when Locke says he's "special."

I think Sayid is now Desmond. Here's why?
1. The writers are obviously showing us that whatever happened to the Losties originally on the island will happen in a similar form in the alternate reality. Desmond was SUPPOSED to be on the island (recall Elois Hawkings words) and Charlie was supposed to die. So when Charlie lives, the alt reality corrects and sends Desmond (because he is different) back to the island in 2007, since the 2004 version is now underwater.
2. He is SUPPOSED to be seperated from Penny so now he is again. There is a reason Sayid and Desomnd had similar stories (trying to get to long lost loves). Also recall the substitute principle. Now Desmond leaps into Sayid's body in the 2007 reality.
3. Desmond was shown as having dissappeared around the time Sayid died.
4. This will give the Losties in 2007 the first inclination of the bomb truly working as "Desmond" will now be confused and say that he was on a plane that did not crash in season 4.
5. This will also be your first hint of everything converging again. (Everything that rises must converge)
Just a theory. It hit me last night.

I've been saying this for a while now. They have gone out of their way to show the shoes of Christian. White = Jacob. Dark = Smokie.

me too, but that timeline just seems off, as i've been thinking the whole point of their trip to the island was so they would change, but in the alternate timeline kate is still running, jack is still having issues with his father, Gin and Sun are back to square one... maybe the alternate timeline won't really be the final one
Not everyone is unchanged. Hurley is lucky. Sawyer warns Hurley not to tell people he won the lottery, since someone may try to take advantage of him. Shannon is not there.
Perhaps only those who actually grew on the island, or made "progress" actually changed their alternate realities. Maybe we will see other alternate realities as other characters "progress".
