I really enjoyed last night's episode. There were some great scenes:
1) When Ben finds Sayid and tells him that's it is time to leave and Sayid gives him a very dark: "Not for me" (or something like that). Ben's reaction to it was incredible. It was clearly an OH shite moment for Ben.
2) The previously posted screen cap of the temple courtyard on fire. Very dark, sinister scene there.

Either way, again, sayid said "the only thing I ever wanted died in my arms. And I will never see it again." And the MIB said "what if you could."
that does not mean he can get back together with Nadia.
Didn't Shannon also die in Sayid's arms? Could she be who he is talking about?

Yes

I would seriously doubt it. Basically the only reason Sayid was living was to find Nadia. She's been his whole driving force the entire show pretty much.

I would seriously doubt it. He has to be talking about Nadia. Also, the actress that plays Shannon is not slated to appear this season. She was supposed to be in LA X when Ian Somerhalder returned, but she didn't for some reason, and they rewrote the scenes on the plane.

From this episode, we get a hint that MIB knows about the alternate timeline (just a hint, not confirmation). Anyone else think perhaps he used the lighthouse for this purpose? If so, he no longer has vision of the alternate time. Perhaps what Jack saw was the alternate timeline when he looked into the mirrors. If he had waited a few minutes before smashing the mirrors, he may have seen himself walking in or out of his mom's house.

If he were smart, this would be the case. She's way hotter than Nadia.

She's way more of a bitch though. Nadia isn't a bad piece of arse either.

I assumed that mib was referring to the alternate timeline when he told sayid he could see nadia again.

The whole time I was thinking that MIB was giving the impression that Sayid could be reunited w/ Nadia, but I see that as being in the "afterlife" not necessarily in the alternate reality. That just seems like a more cynical MIB move.

I think that was most people's assumption. Of course we can't rule out time travel. We've already seen that the island is a time machine. Maybe MIB knows how to control it.
Perhaps MIB can send Sayid back to the point where Jacob touched him. That way, Sayid can see Nadia again right before she gets pancaked.

Just finished watching it. Hopefully now that they've re-introduced Ben into an episode we'll get a ton more Michael Emerson.

a few thoughts...
Maggie Grace has not become such a great actress that she is above returning to the show so that kinda pissed me off, but thats beside the point
The conversation between MIB and Sayid seemed to be almost identical to the one where i believe it was Ben and Locke in season 3 about the "Magic Box" and you could imagine anything in the world and it would appear in the box (in Locke's case at the time it was his father).
Also when Kate looked up into the smoke and kinda smiled or whatever i thought of a couple different things... first is that scene when Ben is underneath the temple or somewhere and the black smoke surrounds him and he can see all the different images of things in his life, etc.
the other thing i thought of is the quote Locke said something like "I looked into the eye of the island and what i was was beautiful(or magical)". In that scene, wasn't smokie also bright or showing flashes of light? Kate may have seen some images like Ben/Locke did

So if this has been discussed my apologies, but have they explained at all how smokey used to live in the temple but now cannot get in?
Are we supposed to infer that Jacob could also become a smoke monster and MIB was banished? Just thinking out loud but it was confusing me a bit.

a few things about last night:
1) i don't get people frustrated about the answers. i really liked this episode.
i remember a few seasons ago talking to a lost "cliffs noter" and he said basically i don't even care how it ends, i just want to know what the numbers mean and what that monster is. we know what both of those things are now. he's probably still not happy.
if you're really upset about the promo, then you probably have never watched a sensationalized tv promo before. "i can't believe they said it was going to be a very special episode of blossom??!! it wasn't that special."
2)the scene with sayid and ben was money. one of my fave lost moments was when sayid interrogated ben when he was henry gale. loved those scenes. i think it's great they way they've built such a mystery around ben as a guy who pulls strings and then now (since he's killed jacob, found out about MIB etc.) he's basically on the same "need to know" level as the audience.
3) i don't think kate saw anything in the smoke. i think she reacted the way anyone would react hanging from a rope ladder with a giant smoke moster racing over you after finding out the chick you came to rescue ain't right in the head.
4)i think the "man who brought death to so many..." line is actually about sayid. showing you ben is a misdirect especially since next week is ben centric
5) if there are rules against killing candidates, are there possible rules against candidates killing jacob/MIB? maybe why sayid couldn't kill MIB.
i was thinking this along with the line of thinking that states candidates' names weren't crossed out when they die, but when they cease to be candidates anymore. just a theory.
6) would a hydrogen bomb force an island to sink? seriously, this is a science question, i don't know.
is it possible that juliet detonating the bomb obliterated the island (i.e. caused it to sink a la the season premiere)? sending the losties to an alt timeline that they've either lived their whole lives or starting in 1977 (i.e. jack not remembering his appendectomy which could have been performed pre 1977.
no island means no jacob manipulating the events of your life to get you to the island.
i'm probably stating the obvious.
7)lastly, i really like the actor who plays keamy. gives me kind of a christopher walken as a bad guy vibe.

Did you watch last nights episode?

They've never alluded to the smoke being in the temple. It was always around the outer wall (which is apparently about a mile from the temple according to last night's episode).

Ring of ash around the temple. They showed MIB/Locke right it's edge last night.

I disagree with this.
This is like the third or fourth time Kate has seen the smoke up close. This isn't exactly a new thing for her. And her facial expression wasn't fear, it was shock.
She already that Claire was screwed up. She was dragged away from Claire before the smoke attacked the temple.

I suppose not IN the temple, but the hole under the ground where Jack and crew found the temple is where smokey used to come out of. I assumed that would have been off limits also if this was the case.

Thats the outer wall.

The ring of ash is between the outer wall and the temple.
