Hammond is really mailing it in, but he's still great for the occasional Clinton/Gore/Jesse Jackson impression. The only guy in the cast who comes close to his level of talent at impersonating celebrities is Bill Hader.
Unfortunately for Hammond, he hasn't really been able to transition into sitcoms or movies, so he's stuck with SNL.
I thought Watkins was pretty good playing Kathie Lee's sidekick on the Today show, but I really hated watching her on Weekend Update as the celebrity blogger.

SNL NEEDS a great impressionist to survive, IMO.
Dana Carvey was one of the best of all-time, but Hammond and Ferrell were great as well.

I think Hader, Carvey, and Hammond are the three best impressionists, and they are all very versatile. I'm kind of surprised they didn't look for a guy who could do a decent Obama over the summer. Armisen's impression is awful.

Murphy was a great impersonator as well (for the few he did). James Brown and Stevie Wonder come pretty quickly to mind.

They also need to get rid of Fred Armisen as quick as possible. Dude is the anti-funny.
They do have a few that they can work around and make a great cast (Hader, Hammond, Forte) but they need an over the top personality and they need a couple of funny ladies. Hopefully one of the new chicks will be good, cause that would be a great start.
