Anakin Skywalker was the most powerful Jedi and it's not even close. Only his arrogance did him in.

Agreed. I've got some good ideas for Episodes 2 and 3 as well, with Anakin being kicked out of the Jedi Order at the end of the second one due to his relationship with Padme (or whoever the hell it would be in our iteration), leaving the stage set for the 3rd one where he takes some vengance on the Jedi Order. All Palpatine would really need to do is slightly provoke Anakin into giving into his impulsive and dark nature and he himself would unknowingly become a Sith in the process and only realize it once its far too late. Anakin shouldn't be blackmailed into joining the Dark Side like he was in RotS, but should very much be seduced by the Dark Side and enjoy the power that it gives to him.

I'm down for a reboot of the prequels but they have to be a gritty reboot because I felt it was pretty kiddy until episode III

In a vacuum, I agree with him having the greatest abilities. Him succumbing to the dark side kind of belittles his power, though.
I would have liked to see Windu and Anakin battle it out at their peaks.

Including Sith.
Theoretically: Anakin by far.
Book Wise: Would have been Anakin Solo, but he died and Jacen Solo became theoretically unstoppable. (He only died because his name wasn't Luke ie "Lucas"
Luke Skywalker is nothing more than a money making plot device. He is a loser.

I'm letting my inner-geek out with this post. I think Obi-Wan was the most complete Jedi that we see on film. However, I don't think he was the best Jedi/Sith with a lightsaber. Dooku beat him twice head to head. Obi-Wan was the most well-rounded of the Jedi that we see on film. But of course, Yoda is past his prime physically. However, I get the idea that Dooku must have been a pretty strong Jedi in his prime.

Darth Vader was the baddest MFer ever.
Speaking of Yoda and Dooku and th eawfulness of the prequels...whay didn't any of the 3 transports just take out his spaceship? Why didn't Yoda just hurl one of those rocks at the ship once Dooku started bringing down the roof?

BOOK SPOILERS
Yeah. Jacen, the son, is presented as unstoppable, able to flow walk through time and crush people minds just by thinking about it. He had Luke beaten when they fought in Legacy (as the fight was ACTUALLY depicted, not later interpreted by the next author). Ben had to stab Jacen in the back to save Luke's life.
Ultimately, he basically allowed his twin sister to kill him as he had realized the error of his ways and turned back to the light side just before his death.

The Emperor and then Yoda

The Emperor and then Yoda
Interestingly enough (including the books) Lucas "okayed" the idea that the Emperor rescued a young free Anakin to force him into a form of slavery in the Vader Suit. The suit was designed in such a way that it became necessary for Anakin's survival when it wasn't ACTUALLY needed.
In this way, by Lucas' estimation, Anakin was held to about 80% of the Emperor's power due to the limitations of the suit. It's main drawback was that he was susceptible to force lightning meaning the Emperor could kill him at anytime. That's what makes the ending of Jedi so powerful.
Vader, forced into a form a slavery again, the very thing he despised as a child, willingly confronted the one thing that would surely kill him to save his son.

Why wouldn't Vader just kill himself then. Not as if it's really worth living.

Keep in mind this was added later. But the explanation is that his WHOLE motivation was hatred for the emperor and the fact that he wanted to kill him and rule in vengeance (aka the Dark Side consumed him). In other words, Vader came to recognize what the Emperor had done to him
That's why they both wanted to turn Luke to the Dark Side. The underlying plot was that they were competing over Luke. To the Emperor, Vader would be obsolete and the threat of his existence would be removed. To Vader, he could train Luke and use Luke to kill the Emperor and they could rule together as father and son.

Hmmmm. I got to go with Darth Halitosis. No one could stand across from him and live. I know its going way back in the jedi annals of hte EU, but it tis' basically accepted fact among the true experts (T-bone stars wars universe posters)

Most Powerful: I go with Vader/Anakin

Most insiders will argue its actually about 68% of the Emperor's power, but I learned on Supershadow.com that it was Lucas wish for it to be more like 73%.
There are some early rough drafts of Lucas from his teen years which list all of the jedi/sith and their midiclorian counts, Those can also be found on super shadow.
