I don't care for Knocked Up, either.
As far as comedies, I just don't care for movies that intentionally try to get me to laugh. Usually it takes a clever story for me to enjoy it. The times I laugh most are movies that aren't comedies, but that have clever one-liners. I laughed during Django Unchained a few times, and that certainly isn't a comedy.

Does everyone like Knocked Up? That movie's not great and I don't think it belongs with Old School, Anchor-Man, Hangover, etc as sort of "universally beloved" comedies. I think a lot of people are very meh on it.

My wife has worked with Will Ferell on a few movies and says he's a really cool, funny, nice guy in person. I just don't care for his movies, that's all.

The Patriot
Something very off-putting about that movie. Comparing it as the American Braveheart is not justified.
One is great movie the other is popcorn.
What don't you like about it? You realize all of the main characters are based (pretty well actually) off of historical figures, and the battles and what happens in them (feigned militia retreat, grabbing the flag and running forward to hold the line) actually happened in two separate battles. One was Cowpens (the militia retreat to lure Cornwallis), the other with the "hold the line" moment escapes me.
The movie is surprisingly historically accurate.

I own the patriot because it does have some good PV, but yeah it's a huge turd. Slow motion, that should've been the title.

Not really. That battle they won in the end, they actually lost it in real life.

I hear Schindler's List is hysterical.

Apocolypse Now.
Besides an incredible invasion scene, the rest of the movie is boring and pointless. And then it just kind of ends. Marlon Brando was miscast as well.
I can completely understand this. You ever read the Heart of Darkness?
I had to read it in highschool as a freshman because the lady in charge of the honors English dept was psychotic. My teacher told us she had a graduate level course in college where they analyzed that book. It was difficult.
If you read the book, you'll appreciate the movie a lot more. The setting changed from British colonial Africa to Nam. But, basically, once they start going down the river, its like a descent into the evil of humanity. The book is exactly the same way.
I won't say that I hate Apocalypse Now because there are iconic moments in the movie that make it memorable and more worthwhile than most films.
But having said that I think it is often wildly over-rated and invite anyone who disagrees to watch "Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmakers Apocalypse", "Apocalypse Now", and read "Heart of Darkness" by Conrad - the book that loosely inspired the movie
If you do all three of those things you will see past the evocative imagery and prose to realize the book and the movie are ultimately lacking in deeper meaning and that Coppola was desperately worried about making the movie because he viewed the movie he was making as poorly organized and without ultimate point.
Of course you can over-look that lack of meaning with appropriate amounts of editing, musical scores, and preferably mind altering substances.

I like it better than when i initially watched it but i agree it doesnt belong in the same breathe as those other movies. And it deffinitly is closer to hated than it is beloved

I don't dislike it compared to a lot of other bad movies, but I don't find it meaningful.... and I hope most people find nihilism unappealing
