Its just such a common fantasy trope to introduce something the audience knows and change it to key the audience in that something is amiss that I don't understand how anyone could miss the point of it is to clue the audience in that something is different.
In planet of the Apes he arrives and immediately sees the Lincoln monument, but the face is an Ape.
Did anyone find that offensive?

Alternate history is a pretty popular genre in writing and has been for a long time. There are plenty of books set in worlds where the nazis won ww2, Russia won the cold war, and even things like if Abe Lincoln was a vampire hunter.
They typically don’t have Hitler running around during the American Civil War.

While it's true that vampires did not fight for the Confederacy in the Civil War, the author of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter still made it so the events of the novel matched up as closely as possible to real history. That means that Abraham Lincoln wasn't a member of the Lakota Nation but an ugly looking Caucasian man who used an ax to fight and kill vampires.

QT can shoot up the entire Nazi leadership in a burning movie theatre, just don’t make Hitler black.

It's hilarious that having a show where the possibility Edward VI can turn into a literal horse isn't offensive but the possibility of his skin being a different color is.

Maybe one of these days the streamers will eventually realize you have to do more than some digital ads if you want people to know your shows exist.

This show (that you probably never even watched) isn't preventing you from learning history or remembering history that you have learned. No one is promoting this show as an accurate re-telling of historical events or as a documentary. Sometimes entertainment is just entertainment. Bridgerton is a good example of this. It has some things that are historically in context and some that aren't. I don't confuse it with actual history from the Regency period.
I know it’s all entertainment at the end of the day, that’s exactly why I said Netflix figured it out and Amazon didn’t. Alternate history shows can be great or get canceled after one season. The Man in the High Castle on Amazon started strong and kind of feel off, but it was good enough to keep watching until the end. Maybe the core audience of Netflix and Amazon Prime are
just different, that’s why Bridgerton is successful and My Lady Jane didn’t work out.
