Someone correct me if it doesn't show the credits, but I've always loved the opening scene to Serenity. It introduces all the characters and is about a three minute scene done in one take.

I life T2.

Someone already said Watchmen...

Always loved North by Northwest, too.

Watchmen
Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Panic Room (movie sucked, but Fincher made the credits cool)

Fallen: the killer dancing to "Time is on my side" while going to the gas chamber is great.

No mention of Star Wars? Honestly, not any opening credits, but the fanfare of Lucasfilm and Fox going straight into the scrawl is epic and historic.

Mission Impossible had a good one.

And the best in television had to be:

Tales from the Crypt

The best in movie just may be:

Circle of Life

You win. There may never be a more overpowering and iconic opening scene than that. But, you really need to be a kid of the 70's to fully appreciate it. Yes, I know that statement has a "get off my lawn" flavor to it, but many of Star Wars' innovations had become standard by the time the current "golden demographic" was born.

I know the point is cliche by now, but you really have to have been alive to appreciate the quantum leap in film making represented in the original film, and the titanic impact it had on society.

Star Wars
Most of the Bond films

One not mentioned yet that I really like is Gods & Generals. Not a great movie, but the opening title/credit sequence of the various regimental flags is pretty impressive.

I came to post Star Wars bc its the obvious winner. My dad said it blew his mind in the theater the first time he saw the crawl with the music then the spaceships flying. It's sentimental for those older folks who experienced that.

The watchmen by a billion.

I wish the following movie had kept the momentum going.
