Loved it. Somehow he went a little bit back to mass appeal than his last two.
ETA: I am a Wes fan though. More so of his diorama era from moonrise on. Still like his earlier ones though. He can really do no wrong for me. His style is awesome and fun and detailed. I’m sure it’ll get better with each rewatch like all of his movies for me.

I really really wanted to like it and did not. I laughed pretty good 3-4 times but overall was very disappointed

I was in San Antonio to see it at a Santikos? Theater that was impressive

Going to see it in NOLA this week. Haven’t seen one of Wes’s films in theater since Moonrise Kingdom. Rewatched Life Aquatic a few weeks ago; man, I forgot how great that movie is.

I feel bad but I couldn’t finish asteroid city or French dispatch. But up until those I’ve enjoyed everything he’s done and many are among my favorite movies ever. I’ll watch moonrise kingdom or life aquatic over and over and never feel like it’s enough

I can see how they aren’t for everyone though

The fake plays done by Max Fischer in Rushmore have more depth in them than the last 3-4 movies Wes Anderson has done. That's the issue.

Exactly ...

I saw Bottlerocket in the theater .... so have been a fan from day 1, but I really think that film, Rushmore and RT are his best. They were grounded in more realism, but carried the exposition and whimsy along.Instead of being driven by it. And Caan, Murray and Hackman helped cement them as classics. Didn't hurt he got Stones, Kinks and Van songs in there. I keep hearing Life Aquatic is a favorite, but I really didn't care that much for it at the time. A revisit is in order.

I did like the GBH and Fantastic Mr. Fox, but have had almost zero motivation to see anything outside of those. I haven't seen the Phoenician Scheme, even though I feel like I already have.

Same. And it's not that I don't like movies that are artsy or quirky I love Jean-Pierre Jeunet movies I'm just not into Anderson.

It was ok.

Not one of Anderson’s best for sure.

I guess I'm the only one that liked Asteroid City? The play thing was pretentious and, as always, the dialogue is bloviating, but I found it charming.

french dispatch is the only one i was really disappointed in and could take or leave.

This movie had some good points, mostly from (surprisingly) Michael Cera.

I liked it too. I guess as someone who has spent a lot of time around thespians and having gone to art school myself, I actually find all of those jokes about writers, directors, etc.. hilarious. I don’t think it’s pretentious at all. I think it actually hammers what is hilarious about these people in real life. It’s definitely an artist making art for other artists though. I can see how if you just want to go and be entertained without much else his movies are not for everyone.

He definitely has a style and it definitely is not entertaining to me.

Just watched this one on Peacock and I found it to be a lovely little movie.

Much more Grand Budapest/Royal Tenenbaums themes of redemption, kindness, and relationships and way less Asteroid City/French Dispatch nihilism.

Honestly came away a bit misty eyed.
