Freauxzen, how about Hitchcock remaking his own "The Man Who Knew Too Much"? Hitchcock stated himself that he considered his 1956 remake to be superior, saying that the 1934 version was the work of a talented amateur, the 1956 version the work of a professional.

The 56 version is more polished and better edited, and it has Jimmy Stewart (automatically making it better).

I mean, it really is a better movie than the original, but I wouldn't call it groundbreaking or anything. It's just plain better overall, but is too similar to the original to be a great remake.

I like remakes that take the material and make it something new without losing the intentions of the original.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) might be the best remake of all-time, considering how it used the source material.

Dawn of the Dead remake is an interesting case.

Is it better than the original? Not at all.
Is it a fun remake in its own right? Yes, definitely. I applaud what they did with the source material.

it has active/running zombies

the only movie this was cool in was 28 days later, because it was something new and that movie rebooted zombie films

when you remake a movie like dawn, with the main focus being claustrophobia and fear of the outside, it loses a lot of that underlying thematic strength when you change the zombies's style completely. 28 days later wasn't based on claustrophobia (at least not with zombies, it was with the humans), so it worked there

also dawn's leading actress looked liked a completely different person in every other scene and i didn't jive with that

Agreed. I would just say they are two completely different films.

28 Days Later > DotD Remake of course

I just enjoyed DotD remake, nothing more. It was fun, had some funny moments and was relatively exciting.

DotD the original is the best zombie movie all-time no doubt.

Manhunter was far superior to Red Dragon. All Red Dragon had was actors with a better pedigree, but I found Manhunter to be a much better movie.

i think some would argue

even though 28 days later was basically a remix of the 3 original dead movies
